Pre-match view

Context last updated 29 Sep 2026, 04:37 · Europe/Bucharest

Bu Yunchaokete has the home crowd, the better recent hard-court record and the only previous meeting between the two, so he is the slight pick to win.

Cerundolo is ranked 53 to Bu's 104, though, and his recent hard-court matches have mostly been tight — which is where the prices are useful: Cerundolo +2.5 games at 1.73 and Cerundolo to win at 2.25. Bu to win at 1.65 asks for more than the form supports.

Context

Cerundolo arrives in Beijing with two Chengdu matches behind him: a first-round win over Yi Zhou and a 6-4 6-4 loss to Davidovich Fokina, who went on to the Chengdu semi-finals. That is modest hard-court match volume and no deep run immediately before this tie, so his current level is being read from a small recent sample. Clay has produced most of his strongest results, which makes this Beijing opener a check on how that level carries onto a quicker surface.
- Cerundolo beat Yi Zhou 6-4 6-3 in Chengdu in the first round.
- Davidovich Fokina beat Cerundolo 6-4 6-4 in Chengdu and then won his quarter-final over Alexandre Muller.

Bu comes into Beijing having reached the quarter-finals of the preceding Hangzhou hard-court event, losing there in straight sets to Roman Safiullin, who went on to the semi-finals. That gives him competitive match rhythm in China on the same surface in the week before this tie, and a marginally heavier recent load than his opponent carries. The straight-sets exit is only one match, so it shows the level at the top of that draw without settling his current form on its own.
- Roman Safiullin beat Bu Yunchaokete 6-3 6-3 in the Hangzhou Open quarter-finals .
- Safiullin advanced to the Hangzhou semi-finals with the win.

Bu holds the only direct result between the two, and it came on the same hard-court surface as this first-round tie.
The one completed meeting needed three sets, with Cerundolo taking the second on a tiebreak before losing the third 6-3. It is a single match rather than a pattern, and it says nothing about how either man is serving or returning now. It remains the only direct comparison available for this surface.
- Bu Yunchaokete beat Juan Manuel Cerundolo 6-3 6-7(5) 6-3 on hard court on 2 October 2025.
- It is the only head-to-head meeting between the two players in the record.
Both players are playing for a second-round place against the winner of the Djokovic–Borges tie, so advancing earns a meeting with one of the event's most decorated champions rather than a lighter opponent. Novak Djokovic is in the Beijing field for the first time in 11 years and has won the tournament six times, which lifts the profile and the difficulty of this section of the draw. The path is identical for both men, so it does not separate them; it defines what this first-round tie is worth at an ATP 500 event.
- The Beijing draw lists Juan Manuel Cerundolo against wild card Bu Yunchaokete in the first round, with the winner meeting the Djokovic–Borges winner in the next round.
- Novak Djokovic is in the 2026 Beijing field; he has won the event six times and is returning after an 11-year absence.
- The China Open is an ATP 500 hard-court tournament held annually in Beijing.
