Context last updated 14 Oct 2026, 15:11 · Europe/Bucharest

Landaluce, the No. 73 seed, has reached the Jinan quarter-final without dropping a set; Smith, ranked No. 202, has won two three-setters, including one over No.

68 Vít Kopřiva. Smith's serve — 10.1 aces per match and 73.7% of first-serve points won on hard — makes the ranking gap less decisive, and Landaluce at 1.33 asks for roughly three wins in four. The one quoted price that offers something is Smith at 3.0.

Context

Smith, ranked No. 202, removed the highest-ranked player in his section; Kopřiva sits 134 places above him and was seeded third, so the three-set win is direct evidence Smith is beating better-ranked hard-court opposition in China. It also marks a seventh quarterfinal of 2026 for Smith, showing deep Challenger runs are routine for him. The caveat is that Kopřiva had played only four completed games in the first round because Kotov retired, so he came in with almost no competitive rhythm before facing Smith.
- Smith won 6-3 3-6 6-3 against third seed Vít Kopřiva at the Jinan Challenger, setting up a quarterfinal against fifth seed Martín Landaluce.
- The result made Jinan Smith's seventh quarterfinal of the 2026 season; he is ranked No. 202 and Kopřiva No. 68.
- Kopřiva had advanced through the first round when Pavel Kotov retired at 6-1 4-1.

Landaluce's ranking has slipped from a career-high No. 55 in June to No. 73, and he arrived in Jinan after a run of early defeats, so these are his first back-to-back wins since mid-August 2026. Winning both in straight sets also leaves him the fresher player, with four sets played to Smith's six. The limitation is the opposition: Simakin is ranked No. 154 and Cui is a home wildcard outside the top 400, so two wins do not by themselves show Landaluce's hard-court problems are fixed.
- Landaluce beat Ilia Simakin 6-3 6-3 and Jie Cui 6-4 7-5 in the first two rounds at Jinan.
- Simakin is ranked No. 154 and Cui, a home wildcard, is outside the top 400.
- Before Jinan, Landaluce's most recent matches were first-round losses to Jan-Lennard Struff in Shanghai and to Marco Trungelliti.
ConfirmedSources checked 14 Oct 2026, 15:09 · Europe/Bucharest
Over the same two rounds Smith has spent two extra sets on court, including a first-round tiebreak and two deciding sets, while Landaluce has not been pushed beyond 7-5 in any set. At Challenger level, where consecutive-day recovery is tight, that is the clearest physical asymmetry in an otherwise similar workload. It becomes relevant if the quarterfinal goes deep, because Landaluce enters the later stages with less recent court time. The gap is modest, though, and Smith's deciding sets were both closed out at 6-3 rather than in long struggles.
- Smith beat Stefanos Sakellaridis 7-6(5) 3-6 6-3 and Vít Kopřiva 6-3 3-6 6-3 in the first two rounds.
- Landaluce beat Ilia Simakin 6-3 6-3 and Jie Cui 6-4 7-5.
ConfirmedSources checked 14 Oct 2026, 15:09 · Europe/Bucharest
The surface is the one both men list as their preference, and it is where Smith has built his 2026 season while Landaluce's hard-court results have been less consistent. The 125 level also carries ranking points that matter to Landaluce's climb back from No. 73 and to Smith's move up from No. 202. These are standard conditions for the Asian Challenger swing, so the venue itself introduces no unusual adjustment for either player.
- The Jinan Challenger is a Challenger 125 played on outdoor hard courts over 10-18 October 2026.
- Arthur Cazaux is the reigning champion.
