Context last updated 13 Oct 2026, 22:05 · Europe/Bucharest

Jinan's round of 16 asks whether a No. 5 seed with four wins in his last 15 can hold off a home wild card who just won his first main-draw match at the event.

Landaluce, ranked No. 73, is the more proven player and the likely winner, but the 1.22 on him is not worth taking. The one price worth considering is Jie Cui at 3.8.

Context

Landaluce arrived in Jinan with six defeats in seven matches since mid-August, the last a 6-4 6-4 loss to Jan-Lennard Struff in Shanghai, and his ranking had slipped from a June career high of No. 55 to No. 73. He answered with a straight-sets win over Ilia Simakin, one of the form players on the Challenger circuit, on his first appearance at the event. The result removes the immediate pressure of that sequence and gives him a foothold on the surface. It is still a single Challenger-level win, and several of the preceding defeats were close three-set or tiebreak losses, so it does not yet show that his hard-court level has been restored.
- Landaluce defeated Ilia Simakin 6-3 6-3 in the Jinan first round
- Landaluce had six defeats in seven matches between mid-August and Shanghai
- Simakin was among the season's most in-form Challenger players
- Landaluce's most recent defeat was a 6-4 6-4 loss to Jan-Lennard Struff in Shanghai

Cui's 6-4 6-1 win over Daniel Altmaier, ranked No. 67, on 28 September is the result behind his price here: it shows he can handle a higher-ranked opponent on hard court. He followed it the next day with a straight-sets loss to No. 41 Botic Van De Zandschulp, so the level has not held from day to day. Against a No. 73 seed, this is the standard he must repeat.
- 28 September 2026: Cui beat Daniel Altmaier (No. 67) 6-4 6-1 on hard court
- Games: 12 won, 5 lost in the straight-sets win
Landaluce enters as the No. 5 seed and world No. 73; Cui is a Chinese wild card ranked No. 420, a gap of more than 300 places. The winner takes a quarter-final place at this Challenger 125 on the Asian hard-court swing. Cui has home support and has already won a main-draw match at the event for the first time, while the ranking difference and Landaluce's seed status make this a clear step up for him.
- Landaluce is the No. 5 seed and ranked No. 73
- Cui is a wild card ranked No. 420
- The winner reaches the quarter-finals of the Jinan Challenger

Cui had played the Jinan main draw three times without winning a match, so his 6-3 7-5 victory over Fajing Sun is a first at the event and came on home hard courts. It advances him to a second round against an opponent ranked more than 300 places above him, a much larger gap than in the opener. The win came against a compatriot ranked outside the top 300, so it confirms a first home result without testing him yet against a higher-ranked opponent.
- Cui had played the Jinan main draw three times without winning a match before 2026
- Cui defeated Fajing Sun 6-3 7-5 in the first round
- Cui entered the main draw as a wild card
