Context last updated 6 Oct 2026, 01:59 · Europe/Bucharest

Shanghai's final qualifying round puts a main-draw place on a match between the No.

124, Basilashvili, and the No. 219, Draxl, whose hard-court records and first-set numbers are close. Basilashvili's stronger recent wins make him the likelier winner, but 1.65 asks for more than that form supports, and Draxl at 2.25 is no better. Every price reviewed here — match winner, set winners, handicap and totals — asks for more than the tennis supports.

Context

The qualifying results place a Masters 1000 main-draw berth at stake in this match. Draxl reached the decider through a straight-sets win over Gaston, while Basilashvili spent three sets against Ilagan, creating a concrete difference in workload from the previous day. Both players nevertheless had the same overnight turnaround, so the draw stakes are more important here than the scheduling distinction.
- Draxl defeated Hugo Gaston 7-6(6), 6-4 in Shanghai qualifying .
- Basilashvili defeated Andre Ilagan 6-3, 6-7(1), 7-5 in the same qualifying round.
- This fixture is the second and final qualifying round.

The Chengdu run gives this Shanghai qualifier recent context beyond Basilashvili's ranking: he won three consecutive main-draw matches after qualifying before the 28 September semi-final. It also means he has accumulated a sustained sequence of hard-court matches before arriving in Shanghai. The specific counterpoint is that he needed a third set in his Shanghai opener after that run, unlike Draxl's straight-sets opening win.
- Basilashvili won three Chengdu main-draw matches after qualifying.
- His Chengdu run ended with a three-set semi-final loss on 28 September 2026.
- He then opened Shanghai qualifying with a three-set win over Andre Ilagan.

Draxl, the No. 219, has shown he can handle a far higher-ranked opponent on a hard court.
The Rinderknech result is the strongest line in Draxl's recent record and gives him something concrete to lean on against the No. 124. It does not make him favourite here: Basilashvili sits 95 places higher, has beaten three top-70 players in the past fortnight and won his own Shanghai opener.
- Draxl beat Arthur Rinderknech (ATP No. 33) 6-2, 7-5 on 18 September 2026 in a completed best-of-three hard-court match.
- Draxl won that match in straight sets, dropping only seven games.
Draxl's US Open qualifying loss came only six weeks before this match and shows that this stage of a major-event entry route is familiar to him. The Shanghai fixture gives him another direct opportunity to convert a qualifying run into a main-draw place. The earlier match was on a different event and against a different opponent, so it adds occasion context rather than a direct matchup conclusion.
- Draxl lost to Tristan Schoolkate 6-4, 5-7, 6-7 in the final round of US Open qualifying on 28 August 2026.
- He is again one win from a main draw in Shanghai.
