Pre-match view

Context last updated 28 Sep 2026, 16:07 · Europe/Bucharest

Faria's hard-court serve and set-starting record make him the more likely winner of this final round of Tokyo qualifying, with a main-draw place at stake — but not at 1.4.

The prices that offer something all sit with Vallejo: a 5.5-game start at 1.29, the match at 2.9, and the second set at 2.5. Faria's 2.0 for a straight-sets win asks too much.

Context

The winner plays in the main draw of a Tokyo ATP 500 while the loser leaves the event. Both are ranked inside the top 70, so a main-draw standard of match is being staged inside the qualifying draw, and the reward for a single afternoon is far larger than this round normally carries. The counterweight is that both men reached this round without dropping a set, so the schedule itself does not separate them.
- Winner of the final qualifying round enters the ATP 500 Tokyo main draw
- Vallejo seeded third and Faria fifth in the same qualifying draw
- Both won their opening qualifying match in straight sets
ConfirmedSources checked 28 Sep 2026, 16:04 · Europe/Bucharest
Both results came on the same hard courts as this qualifying match and show Faria producing his best tennis against high-ranked opponents who strike first. Beating Shelton required him to hold serve and take the ball early, the qualities that matter most over three sets on a quick surface. The limitation is that both results are from August and early September, and his most recent hard-court outing was a three-set loss to Hugo Gaston in Hangzhou.
- Beat Ben Shelton 6-4 6-4 in Cincinnati and reached the last 16
- Took the opening set from Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open
- Held the fastest serve of the US Open's opening week at 142 mph
ConfirmedSources checked 28 Sep 2026, 16:04 · Europe/Bucharest
A qualifying match on Tokyo's hard courts asks Vallejo to play on the surface where his ranking has been built least successfully, which shapes how the match is likely to be decided. His route through it is more likely to run through extended baseline exchanges than through serve-led points, so the first-strike pattern sits with the opponent. The limit on the point is his current form: he won his opening qualifying match in straight sets and pushed a top-100 opponent to three sets in Hangzhou last week.
- Five Challenger titles, including Itajaí and Concepción in 2026, all on clay
- Hard courts are the least productive part of his record
ConfirmedSources checked 28 Sep 2026, 16:04 · Europe/Bucharest
A serve that produced 129 aces in 15 matches is the main reason Faria is the likelier winner on a hard court, and 72.9% of first-serve points won keeps him ahead in most of his service games. The 96 double faults in the same window and a 48.4% second-serve win rate are the opening for Vallejo: prolonging return games and making Faria hit second serves is how the match becomes closer than the ranking gap suggests.
- Last 15 tracked matches, window ending 28 September 2026: 129 aces (8.6 per match) and 96 double faults (6.4 per match)
- First-serve points won 537 of 737 (72.9%); second-serve points won 264 of 545 (48.4%)
- First serves in 737 of 1,282 (57.5%)
