The read

Faria's strong clay-court form in 2026 and superior recent results give him a clear edge over Wawrinka, who has struggled on clay this season.

• Faria has a 26-12 clay record in 2026, including wins over top-50 opponents (Shapovalov, Struff) and a five-set loss to Tiafoe at Roland Garros.
• Wawrinka is 2-6 on clay in 2026, with losses to players ranked outside the top 100 (De Jong, Martineau) and no wins over top-50 opponents on the surface.
• Faria's recent form (last 5 matches): 4-1, with the only loss to world No. 37 Bergs in a competitive four-setter at Wimbledon.
• Wawrinka's recent form (last 5 matches): 2-3, with the wins coming against lower-ranked opponents (Brancaccio, Travaglia) and losses to Berrettini, De Jong, and Michelsen.

Wawrinka's ability to stay competitive in losses and Faria's occasional struggles to dominate suggest Wawrinka will cover the +3.5 game handicap.

• Wawrinka's last four losses have been by margins of 2, 5, 2, and 7 games, with three of those within a 3.5-game handicap.
• Faria's last five wins have been by margins of 6, 4, 4, 4, and 6 games, but against weaker opposition than Wawrinka.
• Wawrinka's serve stats (73.9% first-serve points won) suggest he can hold serve effectively enough to keep the match close.

The read

With Wawrinka's fighting spirit and Faria's occasional lapses, a three-set match is more likely than a straight-sets victory for either player.

• Faria has played three-setters in 3 of his last 10 matches, showing he is not immune to dropping sets.
• The H2H is non-existent, but both players have shown a tendency to engage in tight contests recently.
