Context last updated 19 Oct 2026, 04:02 · Europe/Bucharest

Van de Zandschulp's tour-level wins over Fils and Michelsen make him the likely winner, but Chidekh has won 12 of 14 hard-court first sets and 11 of 14 second sets.

The 1.38 on Van de Zandschulp to win asks for more than his record supports. Chidekh at 2.5 to take the first set, and at 2.5 to take the second, are the two prices with something behind them.

Context

The run included a 6-1 6-0 win over David Goffin, who is playing his final professional event in Brussels, and four of the five wins came in straight sets, so he arrives with recent evidence on the same indoor hard surface used this week. The limit is the opposition: none of the five opponents was ranked inside the top 100, and his next completed match, in Roanne on 14 October, ended in a 7-6(6) 7-6(3) defeat to Jerome Kym. That leaves the title as proof of current indoor sharpness rather than of a level already established above his ranking.
- Chidekh beat Sascha Gueymard Wayenburg 6-2 6-0 in the Mouilleron-le-Captif final .
- The title was his third Challenger title of the season and his fifth on the secondary circuit.
- He entered the top 150 at No. 146 the following Monday.

Those results, with a straight-set win over Alex Michelsen in between, are the basis of his No. 41 ranking and show tour-level wins rather than a record built on the Challenger circuit. The Fils match was tighter than the score suggests: Fils held nine break points and converted one, so the win came from saving break points rather than from dominance. The counterweight is his most recent match, where he took the opening set against Jodar on a tiebreak and then lost the next two 6-4 6-2, plus a six-day gap and the trip from Shanghai to indoor hard courts in Brussels.
- Van de Zandschulp beat eighth seed Arthur Fils 7-5 6-4 in Shanghai to reach the last 16.
- Fils had nine break points in that match and converted one.
- It was Van de Zandschulp's third top-20 win of 2026.
- Rafael Jodar beat him 6-7(4) 6-4 6-2 in the Shanghai round of 16.

Chidekh, at a career-high No. 146, has been the quicker starter over this stretch of the season.
That record is the clearest reason this first round is not a formality: he has been ahead early almost every time out. Van de Zandschulp split his 10 completed hard-court first sets 5-5 between 27 August and 14 October, albeit against stronger fields. Both samples are small and the opposition levels differ, so the contrast is a caution rather than a conclusion.
- Chidekh won 12 of 14 first sets in completed hard-court matches between 10 September and 18 October 2026, averaging 6.0 games to 3.0.
- He won 11 of 14 second sets in the same sample, averaging 5.7 games to 3.5.
- One retirement was excluded from the 14-match sample.
Both matches were on the tournament's Centre Court, so he has two days of competitive time in the indoor conditions while Van de Zandschulp's last match was in Shanghai six days earlier. The value is sharpness and acclimatisation rather than proof of level: Bailly is ranked outside the top 300 and Onclin is No. 168, so neither win matches what Van de Zandschulp beat in Shanghai. Reaching a third ATP main draw also marks where his ranking of No. 146 now sits after a year spent largely on the Challenger circuit.
- Chidekh beat Gilles Arnaud Bailly 6-1 6-3 in the first qualifying round .
- He beat Gauthier Onclin 6-2 7-6(3) in the final qualifying round .
- The Brussels main draw is his third at ATP level.
- Onclin was the last Belgian left in the qualifying draw.
