Context last updated 6 Oct 2026, 03:15 · Europe/Bucharest

Alcalá Gurri, at a career-high No. 138 and having won his last five clay matches, starts a clear favourite against Blanch in the Braga opening round.

Blanch has won four of his last thirteen on clay, though five of those matches went the distance. No quoted price is worthwhile: Alcalá Gurri to win at 1.36 and to take the first set at 1.44 both ask more than the record supports, and Blanch at 2.9 and 2.6 offers nothing either.

Context

Alcalá Gurri arrives in Braga directly from a title, having won the Plovdiv 4 Challenger without losing a set in five matches, his fourth Challenger crown of 2026. That run is the clearest explanation for the ranking gap in this fixture, where he is No. 138 against Blanch's No. 318. The counterweight is the quick turnaround from a five-match week and a final won against Jonas Forejtek, then outside the top 300.
- Plovdiv 4 Challenger final, — Alcalá Gurri beat Jonas Forejtek 6-4, 6-2.
- Fourth ATP Challenger title of 2026 and of his career, achieved without dropping a set.
ConfirmedSources checked 6 Oct 2026, 03:14 · Europe/Bucharest
The opening set is the most repeatable part of Alcalá Gurri's autumn clay sample, more so than his second sets.
Blanch has lost eight of his last thirteen opening sets on clay and averages 4.38 games won to 5.00 lost, so the first set is where the ranking gap is most likely to show. A fast start would not settle the match, because Alcalá Gurri's second sets have been far less dominant at 6-5, but it leaves Blanch a narrow margin for error from the outset.
- Alcalá Gurri's first-set record on clay is 8-3 across 11 completed matches, 21 July to 27 September 2026.
- He averaged 5.55 games won and 3.55 games lost per opening set in that sample.
- One of those 11 matches featured a first-set tiebreak.
A single season of Challenger results has lifted Alcalá Gurri from No. 385 in January 2026 to a career-high No. 138, more than 180 places above Blanch. It frames the fixture as a meeting between a player at a career high and one whose ranking has slipped from a June career high of No. 284 to No. 318. The gap is real, but it is not a surface or style edge, since both players have played almost exclusively on clay this season.
- Alcalá Gurri was No. 385 at the start of 2026 and No. 350 four months ago.
- Reached the top 140 by late September 2026, a new career high.

Genoa 2 gave Blanch his deepest run of the recent clay swing, with wins over Sandro Kopp and Matthew William Donald before a three-set quarter-final loss to Marvin Moeller . It stands against 5 wins and 10 losses across his last 15 matches, 4-9 of them on clay. The weight of that result is limited: neither beaten opponent was inside the top 300 and the run ended at the quarter-final stage.
- Genoa 2 Challenger quarter-final, — Blanch lost 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 to Marvin Moeller.
- Wins over Sandro Kopp and Matthew William Donald en route.
- Blanch's last 15 matches: 5 wins, 10 losses; 4-9 on clay.
