Andrej Martin's clay form against Samuele Pieri's stronger first sets is the tension in this Bari opener.

Martin looks the likelier winner: he is 2.25 to win the match, 2.20 in the first set, 2.20 in the second and 3.50 to win 2-0, and all four carry a positive read. Pieri at 1.65 to win the match and 1.6 in either set asks for more than his 8-7 clay run supports.

Context

Martin's clay campaign in this window was efficient rather than attritional.
Seven 2-0 scorelines, three 2-1 wins and four defeats without taking a set add up to an average of 2.27 sets and 20.53 games per match. A long contest is the less familiar pattern for Martin, and the 2-0 route is the one his record repeats most often, though four straight-set losses in the same sample cut against treating it as a given.
- 15 completed, non-retired clay matches, 24 Jul to 7 Sep 2026, best-of-three.
- Scoreline spread: seven 2-0, three 2-1, four 0-2, one 1-2.
- Average 2.27 sets and 20.53 games per clay match.
Bari is staging a 50-level ATP Challenger in the week beginning 28 September 2026, the lowest tier of the Challenger Tour, with the main draw published and qualifying under way . That places Pieri, 24, and Martin, 36, in a field where a deep run brings limited ranking points and prize money, so an opening-round win carries modest but real value for both. It also frames the ranking picture: Pieri at No. 395 and Martin at No. 371 are close enough that neither is a clear favourite on ranking alone, and both sit near the cut-off range for events at this level.
- Week-39 entry list included "ATP Challenger 50 Bari" alongside Challenger 125 Porto, 100 Jingshan, 75 Columbus, 75 Curitiba and 75 Mouilleron-le-Captif.
- Main draw singles for the Bari Challenger 50 were published, with the qualifying draw released the same evening.
- First-round qualifying results at Bari were reported .

Pieri's clay sets have been settled before either player reached six games apiece.
Zero tiebreaks across a 15-match sample fits sets that finish 6-4 or 6-3 rather than 7-6, and it points to a first round more likely to turn on breaks of serve than on a shootout. The average set in that sample lasted 8.87 games in the first and 8.47 in the second.
- 15 completed, non-retired clay matches, 28 Jul to 21 Sep 2026, best-of-three.
- Matches with a tiebreak: 0 of 15.
- First sets averaged 8.87 games; second sets averaged 8.47 games.
Martin's serving numbers split sharply between his first and second delivery.
He wins 67.5% of points when his first serve lands but only 49.4% behind the second, and 51 double faults in 15 matches is a steady supply of free points. That is the part of his game most likely to be tested in this first round; his 62.5% of break points saved and 46.5% conversion show the rest of the clay game holding up.
- 15 clay matches, 24 Jul to 7 Sep 2026.
- 51 double faults (3.4 per match) and 26 aces (1.7 per match).
- Second-serve points won 49.4% (232 of 470); first-serve points won 67.5% (401 of 594).
- Break points saved 62.5% (65 of 104).
