Context last updated 27 Sep 2026, 23:58 · Europe/Bucharest

De Jong is the higher-ranked player and the likely winner, but his hard-court form has been ground out — six match points saved against No.

169 Guerrieri, then a loss to No. 237 Mayot. De Jong at 1.15 asks for an 87% win rate, which his recent results do not support. Jorda Sanchis at 4.75 is the one reviewed price with something in it.

Context

De Jong entered the Saint-Tropez Challenger as the third seed at No. 95 and needed six saved match points to beat No. 169 Andrea Guerrieri 3-6 7-6(8) 7-6(2), then lost the quarter-final 6-3 4-6 7-5 to No. 237 Harold Mayot from three match points up. Both matches went the distance against opponents ranked well below him, so the week shows a top-100 player being stretched rather than controlling the tier. Reaching the quarter-final as the third seed is a reasonable return, and he did convert the first of the two pressure situations. The profile is a match that runs long and tight rather than one where the ranking gap shows.
- Saved six match points in a 3-6 7-6(8) 7-6(2) second-round win over Andrea Guerrieri on 24 September
- Held three match points before losing the quarter-final 6-3 4-6 7-5 to world No. 237 Harold Mayot

De Jong was in the Netherlands squad for the Davis Cup World Group I tie against Colombia in Den Bosch on 18-19 September and then played the Saint-Tropez Challenger the following week before opening here on 28 September. That is a compressed, travel-heavy block across the Netherlands, France and Portugal rather than a standard tournament-to-tournament cycle, which shortens both recovery and preparation time. The tie was a comfortable Netherlands win, so it likely added modest rather than extreme load, and there is no indication of a fitness problem. The practical effect is scheduling pressure rather than any confirmed physical limitation.
- Named in the Netherlands' four-man squad for the World Group I home tie against Colombia in Den Bosch on 18-19 September 2026
- The Netherlands won the tie, which secured participation in the 2027 Davis Cup Qualifiers

De Jong, the ATP No. 95, is the higher-ranked player in this Porto first round.
Only two of those nine matches reached a deciding set and three contained a tiebreak, so his hard-court results have tended to be settled inside two sets rather than strung out. The 22.4-game average is modest for a best-of-three match, which fits a sample in which six of the nine finished 2-0 either way. It is a nine-match sample, so it describes recent hard-court behaviour rather than a settled pattern.
- Nine hard-court best-of-three matches tracked from 14 August to 25 September 2026
- Scorelines: four 2-0 wins, three 0-2 defeats, one 2-1 win and one 1-2 defeat
- Average 22.4 total games and 2.2 sets per match, with three matches containing a tiebreak
Jorda Sanchis, the ATP No. 216, is the lower-ranked player in this Porto first round.
The set scores in that window show him winning 4.5 games in the average first set and 4.75 in the second, against 5.375 and 5.625 lost, so the deficits are narrow rather than one-sided. Four of the eight matches contained a tiebreak, three of them in the second set. That means his hard-court losses have often turned on a couple of points, which is the argument for him being more competitive here than the ranking gap on its own suggests.
- Eight completed hard-court best-of-three matches tracked from 10 August to 23 September 2026
- Scorelines: five 0-2 defeats, one 2-0 win, one 1-2 defeat and one 2-1 win
- First sets average 4.5 games won against 5.375 lost; second sets 4.75 against 5.625
- Four of the eight matches contained a tiebreak, three of them in the second set
