Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 28 Sep 2026, 04:23 · Europe/Bucharest

A meeting between two players 60 ranking places apart turns on the start of the match: Rybakov has won 9 of 12 hard-court first sets, Staeheli only 1 of 5.

Over the whole match the lean is Staeheli's, narrowly and on low confidence, with straight sets the more common finish in both samples. No quoted price came through among the reviewed markets, so there is nothing here to call value.

Context

Rybakov, a left-hander ranked 511, has started matches markedly better than he has finished them across this hard-court sample.
Only one of those 12 first sets reached a tiebreak, and Rybakov averaged 5.8 games won against 3.9 lost, making the opening phase his most reliable passage of play. Staeheli's five hard-court matches went the other way, one first-set win against four losses, which is where the two separate most clearly. It remains a small sample, and Staeheli's second sets read 3-2, so this says nothing about the full match.
- 28 July to 27 September 2026: Rybakov won 9 of 12 completed hard-court first sets, averaging 5.83 games won and 3.92 games lost per opening set.
- Three of the 12 hard-court matches in that sample contained a tiebreak, one of them in the first set.
Staeheli and Rybakov meet in the second round of the Columbus Challenger in the early Court 3 slot, with Milavsky-Bicknell at 17:00 and Rottgering-Winter due after them on the same court. Both men won their opening matches the previous day, so neither arrives with unfinished play behind them. The listing fixes the order of play and court but carries no evidence of a surface, altitude or scheduling advantage for either player.
- The 28 September 2026 order of play lists Staeheli v Rybakov on Court 3 at 14:00, with Milavsky-Bicknell at 17:00 and Rottgering-Winter after them.

Staeheli, ranked 451, has a compact five-match hard-court sample that produced two three-set wins, one straight-sets win and two straight-sets losses.
Two of the five matches went the distance and two ended in straight-set defeats, so the 22.6-game average reflects close, frequently extended sets rather than control in either direction. No tiebreak appeared in that sample, matching Rybakov's low tiebreak count on the same surface. One retirement has been excluded, so all five are completed results, and the sample is small enough that it describes recent form rather than a stable rate.
- 13 to 27 September 2026: Staeheli's five completed hard-court matches, best-of-three, produced a 3-2 record with scorelines of one 2-0, two 2-1 and two 0-2, averaging 22.6 total games and 2.4 sets per match.
- No tiebreaks were played in those five matches, and one retirement was excluded from the sample.
Rybakov, 511, has shown sharp starts inside the same hard-court stretch in which results have slipped away from him.
Rybakov won 13 games and lost 13 in that match, so the 6-1 opening set was the outlier in an otherwise even contest that went the distance. It is one result rather than a trend, though it fits a wider pattern: his second sets in the 12-match hard-court sample read 7-5, clearly weaker than his 9-3 first-set mark. That is why the opening set and the full match can point in different directions in this fixture.
- 21 September 2026: Rybakov lost 1-2 to Ozan Baris (ranked 416) on hard courts, 6-1, 3-6, 4-6, winning 13 games and losing 13.
