Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 6 Oct 2026, 02:39 · Europe/Bucharest

Dodig is the better clay player on recent results, Pellegrino the higher-ranked man with the steadier clay serve, so this should be close.

Dodig is the likelier winner. The 1.6 on him needs a 62.5% win rate and his 8-3 clay run does not reach that; Pellegrino at 2.2 is also left alone. No reviewed match-winner price here is worth taking.

Context

Dodig, ranked 174, has built his recent clay record on strong second sets rather than fast starts.
In a best-of-three, winning nine of 11 clay second sets gives Dodig a platform if the opener goes against him, and his completed clay matches ran to 2.45 sets. The counterweight is a 6-5 first-set record in the same window, so the second-set edge has often arrived after a set had already gone the other way. Three retired matches sit outside this sample, so the game figures cover completed efforts only.
- Clay sample: 11 completed matches, 6 August to 12 September 2026.
- Second sets: 9 wins, 2 losses, averaging 6.0 games won and 4.0 games lost.
- First sets in the same sample: 6 wins, 5 losses; 2.45 sets per match on average.
Pellegrino, ranked 145, has been playing short clay matches recently, and the three-set ones have slipped away.
The straight-set share points towards a compact first-round match, and if Dodig forces a third set, Pellegrino has not yet won one in this window. That reading rests on only three deciders inside a 10-match sample, so it is a lean rather than a firm pattern; his 22.0 games per match average is the steadier number.
- Clay sample: 10 completed matches, 7 July to 9 September 2026, averaging 22.0 total games and 2.3 sets per match.
- Scorelines: five 2-0 wins, three 1-2 losses, two 0-2 losses.
- Only two of the 10 matches featured a tiebreak.
Dodig's most recent completed match came against the world No. 2, and he stayed within a single break in both sets.
The scoreline shows Dodig can hold his level against a player far above this field, even in a straight-sets defeat. It came on indoor hard rather than clay, so it speaks more to his general level than to the Braga surface, and it is one match. His clay wins in the window came against opponents ranked 200 to 399.
- 19 September 2026, indoor hard: lost in straight sets to Alexander Zverev 4-6 6-7, winning 10 games and losing 13.
- Zverev was ranked No. 2; Dodig is ranked 174. Completed match, no retirement.
