Pre-match view

Context last updated 26 Oct 2026, 03:48 · Europe/Bucharest

Fritz, ranked 14, meets the world No.

86 Hijikata in Basel, and the hard-court split is wide: 68.4% of sets won across 15 matches against 45.7%. Fritz winning, most likely in straight sets, is the plain read. Fritz's 1.1 match price asks more than that record justifies; the better cases sit at Hijikata 4.75 for the first set and 7 for the match.

Context

Fritz controlled that match on serve and never lost more than three games in a set.
One completed meeting from February 2024 is a small sample and says little about current form. It does show Fritz's serve keeping Hijikata's returns under pressure on a hard court. Nothing in that scoreline suggests Hijikata will collect many free points on return here.
- Fritz won 6-3 6-3 on hard court on 16 February 2024, the only listed head-to-head match.
Fritz has usually led early in this stretch, taking the first set in 9 of the 11 matches.
The window since mid-August is short, and three of the losses went the distance. Even so, Fritz has most often led early and closed in two sets. Those matches averaged 23.1 total games, a modest figure that fits the straight-set pattern. It shapes how the first set and the straight-set lines should be read.
- Fritz's 11 completed hard-court matches from 16 August to 25 October 2026 include seven 2-0 wins, three 1-2 losses and one 0-2 loss.
- He won set one in 9 of those 11 matches and set two in 8 of the 11.
- Those matches averaged 23.1 total games.
Hijikata has regularly given away the first set while still pushing several matches into a tiebreak.
Fourteen matches is a reasonable but not large sample, and six of them included a tiebreak, so sets have not always run away from him. The opening set, though, has often gone the other way. That puts the weight on his return game early in this match.
- Hijikata's 14 completed hard-court matches from 13 August to 25 October 2026 include six 0-2 defeats.
- He lost the opening set in 9 of the 14.
- Six of the 14 matches contained a tiebreak.
Fritz averaged 10.5 aces and just 1.7 double faults per match in the same sample.
Winning 568 of 733 first-serve points over 15 matches gives opponents few openings on his delivery. Saving 58 of 79 break points adds to that picture. It does not guarantee holds, but it explains why his matches tend to tilt on a handful of points rather than long return games.
- Across 15 hard-court matches, Fritz landed 63% of first serves (733 of 1164).
- He won 77.5% of first-serve points (568 of 733) and saved 73.4% of break points faced (58 of 79).
- He averaged 10.5 aces and 1.7 double faults per match in that sample.
