Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 23 Oct 2026, 22:23 · Europe/Bucharest

Fritz's serve against Paul's break-point conversion, with a place in the Lyon final at stake.

Fritz is the likelier winner — he has not dropped a set this week — but 1.55 to win, 1.55 for the first set and 1.6 for the second ask too much. Paul at 2.4 is the one price that offers anything, and only just.

Context

Five of the six meetings since October 2021 ended without a deciding set, so the rivalry has tended to resolve rather than swing. Paul's February 2026 win made it two in a row against Fritz, following a three-setter in March 2023. With four wins to Paul and two to Fritz across those six matches, the history points to a tight match rather than a clear favourite.
- 20 Feb 2026: Tommy Paul beat Taylor Fritz 6-4 6-3
- Six career meetings since October 2021: Paul 4, Fritz 2; five finished 2-0
Across 11 hard-court best-of-3 matches from 3 August to 23 October 2026 he has won seven in straight sets, lost three in three and lost one in two. His opening sets in that sample average 6.27 games to 4.73, with four tiebreaks, so the clean scorelines have not all been comfortable. Paul's two Lyon wins both went to a third set, meaning Fritz has played 26 games this week to Paul's 33.
- 23 Oct 2026: beat Daniel Altmaier 7-6 6-2
- 22 Oct 2026: beat Pierre-Hugues Herbert 6-2 7-5
- 11 hard-court best-of-3 matches, 3 Aug–23 Oct 2026: seven 2-0 wins, three 1-2 losses, one 0-2 loss
The same 15-match sample, running to 23 October 2026, shows 38.1% of return points won (516 of 1356), so the conversion rate is doing real work rather than sitting on a lopsided scoreline. Fritz's break-point conversion in his own last 15 matches is 33.1% (40 of 121), a gap that shows up on the important points. That is why a close scoreline here should not be read as comfortable for the favourite.
- Last 15 matches: 53 of 114 break points converted (46.5%)
- Last 15 matches: 516 of 1356 return points won (38.1%)
