Context last updated 25 Oct 2026, 15:06 · Europe/Bucharest

Medvedev, ranked fifth and fresh from the Almaty title, meets a career-best Mérida in the Vienna first round — and he already beat him at Wimbledon in July.

Medvedev's 12-2 hard-court sample and nine straight-set wins in 13 best-of-three matches make him the clear pick. The 1.20 on Medvedev to win the match is the only price carrying an edge, and a fraction of a point makes it fair rather than generous.

Context

The Wimbledon match is the only direct reference point between these players. Mérida won the opening set before Medvedev took the next three, providing a concrete record of their most recent head-to-head contest. It was played at a different event, so it does not establish how the matchup will unfold in Vienna.
- Medvedev recovered from a set down to win their July 2026 Wimbledon meeting in four sets.

Medvedev enters Vienna directly after a title defence in Almaty, giving this match immediate context within his late-season schedule. The result also kept his ATP Finals qualification push active. The supplied information does not establish his travel timing or physical condition for Vienna.
- Medvedev retained the Almaty title .

The set log behind that run has Medvedev taking 11 of 13 first sets and 10 of 13 second sets, with only two tiebreaks in the whole sample. That is the shape of a player who closes sets early rather than trading holds. The counterpoint is that three of the 13 still went to a deciding set, and Mérida has been taken to three sets in four of his nine hard-court best-of-three matches.
- 13 completed hard-court best-of-three matches, 27 September to 23 October 2026: nine 2-0 wins, three 2-1 wins and one 0-2 loss.
- 11 of 13 first sets and 10 of 13 second sets won in that sample, with two matches containing a tiebreak.
The Umag title is the defining tournament result in Mérida's 2026 season. It places this Vienna appearance in the context of a year in which he has already converted a tour-level run into a title. That success came on clay, so it is not direct evidence about this fixture's conditions.
- Mérida won five matches to take the 2026 Umag title on clay.
