Context last updated 11 Oct 2026, 05:41 · Europe/Bucharest

A fresh Francesco Passaro against a Jonas Forejtek who has spent long hours on court, a 195-minute semi-final and a doubles final included, is the tension in this Palermo clay final.

Passaro, the higher-ranked man, is the more likely winner. Of the two match-winner prices reviewed, Passaro's 1.44 asks too much; Forejtek at 2.6 is the price that offers something, on the back of a 10-4 clay record and 11 first sets from 14.

Context

Forejtek has played ten sets in Palermo, two of his last three decided by third-set tie-breaks, while Passaro has played nine and dropped one set, against Carlo Alberto Caniato in the second round. Both semi-finals were completed on Saturday evening, so the 16:00 Sunday final gives each man a night's recovery and makes the gap one of accumulated load rather than same-day turnaround. The hour-long rain stoppage in Passaro's match cut across his rhythm and pushed his finish later, which is the clearest counterweight to the set-count difference. Court time is therefore a genuine fatigue risk for Forejtek rather than a settled advantage for either player.
- Forejtek beat Alejandro Moro Canas 6-7(1) 6-4 7-6(4) in a 195-minute semi-final
- Forejtek beat Michele Ribecai 6-1 1-6 7-6(5) in the quarter-finals
- Passaro beat Yanaki Milev 6-2 6-1 in the second semi-final
- The second semi-final was interrupted for about an hour by heavy rain

Passaro is chasing a fourth Challenger title after wins at Trieste, Genoa and Turin, and this is his first final of 2026. He had not reached a semi-final earlier in the season, so the run marks a change in his year rather than a continuation of it. The final is played on Italian clay, the surface on which he has built his ranking and the one he lists as his preference. His current ranking of No. 229 remains well below the No. 89 career high he set in February 2025, which is the measure of how much of the season has gone against him and why the title carries ranking value beyond the occasion.
- Passaro beat Yanaki Milev 6-2 6-1 in the semi-final
- Passaro is playing for a fourth career Challenger title after Trieste, Genoa and Turin
- The semi-final was Passaro's first of 2026

This is Forejtek's second career Challenger final and a second attempt at a title at this level, at a ranking of No. 343 and more than 120 places below the No. 217 career high he set in August 2022. He built the run on clay against opponents all ranked inside the top 320 apart from his first-round win, with the last two matches decided by third-set tie-breaks. The ranking return from one final is modest, so the significance lies in continuity of form rather than in a jump back toward his previous level. He starts the final as the lower-ranked of the two, which makes a first title at this level the clear measure of the week.
- Forejtek reached a second career shot at a Challenger title
- Forejtek is ranked No. 343
- Forejtek beat Moro Canas 6-7(1) 6-4 7-6(4)

Forejtek's first-set record is the strongest number in his clay window and includes three opening-set tie-breaks, while his second sets sit level at 7-7. Passaro has lost the opening set in six of his 11 clay matches, so the first set is a plausible route for the lower-ranked man. Forejtek's matches average 24.3 games, which points to a longer afternoon if the opener goes his way.
- Clay set1 record 11-3 with three tie-breaks across 14 completed matches, 1 July–10 October 2026
- Set1 games won average 5.79, lost 3.86, total 9.64
- Set2 record 7-7 and total games average 24.3 over the same 14 matches
