Context last updated 8 Oct 2026, 03:19 · Europe/Bucharest

Ribecai, the home Italian who beat top seed Kolar 6-1 6-1, meets Forejtek, fresh from his first Challenger final and two straight-set wins in Palermo.

Ribecai is the narrow favourite on ranking and home form, with Forejtek's 14-match clay run and first-set record keeping it close. Ribecai at 2.2 to win the match is the one reviewed price that offers value; Forejtek at 1.6, to win the match or to take the opening set, asks for more than his record justifies.

Context

Kolar was the top seed and the strongest seed in Ribecai's half of the Palermo draw, so a 6-1 6-1 win over him is the best single result either man brings into this quarter-final. Ribecai, 23 and ranked No. 282, is the Italian playing at a home event, and he had won only two of his previous seven matches before arriving in Palermo. The counterweight is his first round, where he lost the opening set to world No. 906 Benito Sanchez Martinez and then trailed 5-5 in the second before coming through 5-7 7-5 6-0, so his two wins in Palermo have not come at a uniform level.
- Kolar entered the Palermo round of 16 as the tournament's top seed, ranked No. 196.
- Ribecai beat him 6-1 6-1, dropping only two games.
- Ribecai is Italian and was the home player in the match.

Forejtek, 25, had never reached a Challenger final before Plovdiv 4 in late September, and he lost that final 6-4 6-2 to Max Alcala Gurri, who won the title without dropping a set all week. He carried the form directly into Palermo, beating Sandro Kopp 7-5 6-4 and Czech compatriot Martin Krumich 6-3 6-4 without losing a set. The limitation is the level: his career-high No. 217 dates from August 2022 and he sits at No. 343, so a first Challenger final marks a step up in current form rather than a return to his previous ranking.
- Forejtek lost the Plovdiv 4 final 6-4 6-2 to Max Alcala Gurri, the first Challenger final of his career.
- Alcala Gurri won that title without dropping a set all week.
- Forejtek followed it with 7-5 6-4 and 6-3 6-4 wins over Sandro Kopp and Martin Krumich in Palermo.

Forejtek, 25, has been the stronger starter on clay in this window, winning 10 of 14 opening sets and averaging 5.43 first-set games won against 4.14 lost.
The opening set is the phase where Forejtek's clay record is most convincing, and Ribecai has only three completed clay matches to set against it. Ribecai took the opening set in two of those three. Forejtek's second sets are much more even — 7-7 across the same 14 matches — which is why a strong first set is not a reliable guide to the whole match.
- Forejtek's clay set evidence covers 14 completed, non-retired best-of-three matches from 14 June to 7 October 2026, with one retirement excluded.
- He won the first set in 10 of those 14 matches and lost it in four, with two first-set tiebreaks.
- His first sets averaged 5.43 games won and 4.14 lost, and his second sets were 7-7.
Ribecai's clay record rests on only three completed matches, so his home quarter-final draws on a much smaller base than Forejtek's 14-match sample.
Those three matches averaged 24.3 games with no tiebreaks and included both a three-set win and a three-set loss, so the record has swung both ways within a very small set of matches. Two of them came in Palermo this week, which makes them the freshest evidence available, but the base stays small enough that a single strong or weak day shifts the picture. Forejtek, by contrast, has 14 completed clay matches since mid-June, going 9-5.
- Ribecai's clay set evidence covers three completed, non-retired best-of-three matches from 28 July to 7 October 2026, with no retirements excluded.
- He is 2-1 in those matches, with scorelines of one 2-0, one 2-1 and one 1-2, and five of eight sets won.
- The three clay matches averaged 24.3 total games and contained no tiebreaks.
