Villena quarterfinal, first meeting: Djere, ranked 179, has not dropped a set this week, while lucky loser Barton, ranked 288, beat the second seed and saved two match points to join him.

Djere is the likelier winner, but not at 1.36. Barton is the side that holds up: 2.9 to win, 2.6 for the opening set, 2.5 for the second set, 5.25 for a 2-0 win.

Context

Djere, 31, has won both Villena matches without dropping a set and has now reached six Challenger quarterfinals in 2026, the form line behind his place in this quarter. The counterweight is the surface: his game is built on clay and the reference for this match places him at No. 179, far below the No. 27 career high he reached in June 2023. Two clean hard-court wins in the same week is a stronger guide to his current level here than his season-long record, which is weighted toward clay.
- Djere beat Oliver Tarvet 6-4 7-6(4) to reach the Villena quarterfinals
- Djere beat Dominic Stricker 6-1 7-5 in the first round
- The quarterfinal is Djere's sixth of the 2026 season

Barton came into the main draw as a lucky loser, so beating the second seed is the first evidence this week that his hard-court game holds up against a top-100 opponent. The opening set went to a tiebreak won 13-11, which means the set turned on a handful of points rather than on a collapse from the higher-ranked player. The limitation is weight of evidence: this is one match, Barton's 2026 record is concentrated on clay, and his level on hard courts remains thinly established beyond this week.
- Barton entered the Villena main draw as a lucky loser
- Barton beat second seed Toby Samuel 7-6(11) 6-3 in the first round
- Samuel was ranked No. 100 and Barton No. 288

The three-set win over Rehberg adds 33 games to a Villena workload that now stands at 56 games, against 45 for Djere across his two straight-set wins, so the shared one-day turnaround comes at a different physical cost for each player. Saving two match points also means Barton's route to the quarterfinals ran to the outer edge of his range for the week. That gap matters in a best-of-three quarterfinal between two players who are otherwise on the same recovery clock and the same surface.
- Barton saved two match points against Max Hans Rehberg
- Barton won 6-1 6-7(1) 7-6(3) to reach the Villena quarterfinals
- The match lasted 33 games

Prizmic headed the entry list, so his absence removes the tournament's top line and leaves a draw assembled without its leading seed, which raises the weight of the remaining seeds and of entrants who came through qualifying. Barton is one of those beneficiaries, having entered the main draw as a lucky loser and then beaten the second seed. The change does not alter either player's route to this round: Djere and Barton each won two main-draw matches to reach the quarterfinal.
- Top seed Dino Prizmic withdrew with an injury before the main draw
- Prizmic led the entry list for the tournament in Villena
- Prizmic beat Novak Djokovic and Ben Shelton earlier in the season
