A first-round rematch of September's Manacor semifinal, which Potenza led 6-2 before losing two tie-break sets.

Montes-De La Torre, ranked 228 to Potenza's 536, is the likelier winner, but at 1.45 he is not a backable price; Potenza at 2.6 is the one quote that offers something.

Context

This is the only meeting between the pair in the structured sample, and it went to the wire: at the Rafa Nadal Open in Manacor, Montes-De La Torre won 2-6, 7-6(2), 7-6(2) after losing the opening set. Potenza had won five straight matches to reach that semifinal, beating David Jorda Sanchis and Edas Butvilas, so the result says more about how tight the pairing is than about a one-sided edge. Both men are back on hard courts in Portugal within a month of that match, which gives it direct relevance to this first round. One three-setter is limited evidence and should not be read as a firm predictor of the next meeting.
- Montes-De La Torre beat Potenza 2-6, 7-6(2), 7-6(2) in the Manacor Challenger semifinal
- Potenza reached that semifinal with five straight wins at the event, including victories over David Jorda Sanchis and Edas Butvilas

Potenza has already played two competitive matches at the venue this week, including a three-setter against Ivan Marrero Curbelo, so he arrives with more time on the Porto courts than his opponent. His final qualifying round was shortened when Lui Maxted retired at 6-2, 4-2, which caps the physical cost of that match but also leaves fewer completed sets behind him. This is his fourth successful qualifying run of 2026, so the route is a familiar one for him. The caveat is that those wins came against opponents ranked in the 360s and 390s, so they confirm match sharpness rather than a clear step up in level.
- Potenza beat Lui Maxted 6-2, 4-2 ret. in the final qualifying round at Porto
- Potenza beat Ivan Marrero Curbelo 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in the previous qualifying round
- Reported as his fourth successful qualifying run of 2026

Potenza's strongest recent run came at the Rafa Nadal Open earlier in September, where he came through qualifying and beat three higher-ranked opponents, including 172nd-ranked David Jorda Sanchis and 195th-ranked Edas Butvilas, to reach the semifinal. That gives his current form a better base than a ranking of 536 suggests, since he has recently beaten top-200 opposition in competitive main draws. The run ended against Montes-De La Torre, the same opponent he meets here. It is one week of results, so it shows a reachable level rather than sustained form.
- Potenza came through qualifying at the Rafa Nadal Open
- Potenza beat David Jorda Sanchis and Edas Butvilas en route to the semifinal

Montes-De La Torre's run in Manacor took him to a second Challenger final of 2026, where he lost a deciding set to Felix Balshaw after taking the opener 6-3. He followed it with a first-round defeat at Rennes and then a qualifying campaign in Porto, so the final remains the clearest recent marker of his level. Reaching that stage in a competitive field supports the view that he starts this match as the more established player of the two. One deep run does not carry forward on its own, and the results immediately after it were ordinary.
- Felix Balshaw beat Montes-De La Torre 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the Manacor final
- The Manacor final was his second Challenger final of 2026
