Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 20 Sep 2026, 16:16 · Europe/Bucharest

Dellien is the rightful favourite on ranking, clay pedigree and first-set conversion, but at 1.44 he is overpriced (model 62% vs implied 69.4%) and carries retirement risk, so the match-winner and first-set quotes are traps.

The value lies in totals and serve markets — over 21.5 games, over 2.5 sets, a tiebreak, and under 6.5 aces — reflecting two low-ace clay grinders whose recent matches routinely go the distance.

Context

Dellien, 33, is a Bolivian clay-court specialist ranked No. 129 who has spent almost his entire career on the surface. He reached a career-high No. 64 in 2022 and has won 573 of his 591 career matches on clay.
The retirement against Dodig is the most recent entry in his match log and follows another retirement in July, so his physical state is a live question for this first round. His clay record in the last 15 matches is 7-4 with 59.1% of games won, but the two retirements in that window are a counterweight to the positive results.
- Retired at 5-3 down against Matej Dodig on September 10, 2026, in a clay Challenger.
- Also retired in a clay match against Juan Carlos Prado Angelo on July 29, 2026.
- Won 7 of 11 clay matches in the last 15-match window with 59.1% of games won on the surface.
Pucinelli De Almeida, 25, is a Brazilian right-hander ranked No. 249 who has played almost exclusively on clay in his career, with 250 of his 275 match wins coming on the surface.
His last 15 matches include an 8-match clay block in August where he won six times, including wins over higher-ranked opponents Henri Squire and Federico Agustin Gomez. The hard-court swing that followed produced a 3-3 record, so the surface switch back to clay is a meaningful positive for him.
- Won 6 of 8 clay matches in the last 15-match window, with 56.6% of games won on the surface.
- Won only 3 of 6 hard-court matches in the same window, with 53.2% of games won.
- Career clay record of 250 wins against 24 hard-court wins.
Dellien, 33, is the ATP No. 129 right-hander with a two-handed backhand and the stronger long-term clay record in this Buenos Aires matchup. His most recent tracked match before this week ended in retirement against Matej Dodig on 10 September.
He then completed a straight-sets Davis Cup singles win over Fu Wang Choi on 19 September, nine days after that retirement. That confirms he was fit enough to play and finish a competitive match, but no medical diagnosis or full recovery is established, so his physical state across a best-of-three clay match remains unverified.
- Dellien completed a straight-sets Davis Cup singles match on 19 September.
- Stored recent sample: 3 wins from 5 tracked matches.
- A tracked match on 2026-09-10T00:00:00.000Z against Matej Dodig ended by retirement; the stored result was L.

- Pucinelli De Almeida won 68.7% of first-serve points and converted 43.7% of break points on clay in the same window.
