Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez #263Mexico11 – 2Santiago Rodriguez Taverna #443Argentina2

The part of Rodríguez Taverna's game the higher-ranked opponent can attack.

Those numbers are where a first round can get away from him: Pacheco Mendez saved 70.8% of break points across his own 15-match window. The counterweight is the return, where Rodríguez Taverna won 41.1% of points against Pacheco Mendez's 37.0%. Both samples cover 15 matches, so the gap is a lean rather than a settled edge.

The Dellien defeat and the Estévez win are his only clay matches since a long hard-court block that ran from the North American summer through Asia, so his form line is a hard-court line applied to a clay event. The practical cost is adaptation: a left-hander whose recent reference points are faster courts now faces an opponent who has already played four clay sets at this venue. The six-day gap since his last match offsets part of that, since he arrives fresher than a qualifier who finished on 19 October.

It fixes the level of the tournament around a first round between the No. 263 and No. 443 players: the field is the deepest in the event's five editions, with a former world No. 16 and two past champions in the draw. That matters for how a first-round win here should be read, because the points and the level of opposition behind this match are higher than a routine 75-level entry list. It also explains why a player ranked 263 could be drawn against a qualifier rather than a seed.
