Pre-match view

Context last updated 17 Oct 2026, 22:37 · Europe/Bucharest

A home final for the last Frenchman in Roanne, against an opponent who has won 12 of his last 14 and already beaten the No. 92 seed here.

Martineau's serving over 15 hard matches and his 2025 deciding-tiebreak win on this court make him a narrow pick, though Brunold's four-match hard-court sample keeps that call at low confidence. No odds were put forward in this review, so there is no price to take or dismiss.

Context

The previous meeting took place at this tournament, in the 2025 quarterfinal, and needed a deciding tiebreak, so both players have already played each other in these conditions and in front of this crowd. It also means there is no novelty in the matchup: Brunold has had a year to work on the patterns that cost him that match, and Martineau has direct evidence he can win the tight moments against this opponent. One match on the same court twelve months apart is limited evidence, especially as it turned on two points in a final-set tiebreak rather than a clear margin.
- The 2025 Roanne quarterfinal finished 6-4, 6-7, 7-6 to Martineau.
- The match was played on the same indoor hard courts used for the 2026 edition.
- Both players are ranked within 11 places of each other for this final, Brunold at No. 261 and Martineau at No. 272.

Roanne is a home tournament for Martineau with a heavy French presence in the draw, and he is the last domestic player standing, so the final is played in front of a crowd aligned with him. His semifinal against the sixth seed was his best win of the week by ranking. The rest of the route was softer - Etienne Donnet at No. 817, Max Schoenhaus at No. 293 and Gueymard Wayenburg at No. 189 - and two of his four opponents were ranked inside the top 200, so this final is a step up in class rather than a continuation of the same level.
- Martineau beat Nicolai Budkov Kjaer 7-5, 7-6(4) in the Roanne semifinal.
- He won the all-French quarterfinal against Sascha Gueymard Wayenburg 6-3, 6-4 .
- Nine French players reached the last 16 in Roanne, and Martineau was the only one to reach the semifinals.

Bonzi was the second seed and the highest-ranked opponent in either player's path this week, so the three-set win is the result that gives Brunold's run its weight and answers the objection that his wins had come against lower-ranked opposition. It also came against a French player in France, the same setting as this final. The counterweight is his record against modest opposition: losses to Carlo Alberto Caniato at No. 318 and Sandro Kopp at No. 316 inside his last 15 matches, which is why a single top-100 win has not yet translated into a settled ranking.
- Brunold beat Benjamin Bonzi 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 in the Roanne round of 16 .
- Bonzi was the second seed and entered the match ranked No. 92, more than 150 places above Brunold.
- Brunold also beat Mathys Domenc and No. 198 Felix Balshaw, both French, earlier in the week.

Martineau is the more settled server of the two in the available data, landing 67.3% of first serves across that 15-match run.
That first-serve percentage and ace count give Martineau a route to cheap holds in a final where both men have had to work for their service games this week. It is also the clearest statistical difference between the finalists, because Brunold's serve and return splits are not available in this sample.
- 15 hard-court matches tracked, 18 August to 17 October 2026.
- 74.3% of first-serve points won (599 of 806).
- 67.3% of first serves in (806 of 1198) and 9.1 aces per match (137 in 15).
