Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 10 Oct 2026, 13:28 · Europe/Bucharest

Two top-25 hard-court players meet in the Shanghai third round, with Nakashima's more reliable serving and 11-4 recent hard-court record up against Bublik's ace-heavy game and quick two-set matches.

Nakashima is the likelier winner, but 1.65 is close to fair rather than generous. Among the reviewed prices, only Over 23.5 games at 1.9 offers anything; Under 2.5 sets at 1.5 and the two set-winner prices at 1.65 ask too much.

Context

Nakashima held serve throughout against a big-serving opponent and closed a tight opening set in a tie-break and the second from 5-5, and the win ended a wait for a victory at this event and a losing record against Berrettini. That points to his serve and end-of-set execution working in Shanghai. Berrettini is ranked outside the top 40, so the opposition level limits how much can be read into the result, but it is the most recent measure of Nakashima's form on this surface.
- Nakashima beat Berrettini 7-6(4) 7-5 in the Shanghai second round
- He was not broken across the match
- It was his first win in Shanghai since 2023 and his first over Berrettini, who had won their 2022 Australian Open meeting

Reaching a first Masters 1000 final at the Canadian Open this season marks the highest level Nakashima has sustained, and it came on hard courts, the surface used in Shanghai. It explains why a 25-year-old sits inside the top 20 and arrives seeded at this event. The signal is the depth of his run at this tournament tier in 2026 rather than the outcome of that final, and it gives a higher competitive reference than his earlier career.
- Nakashima reached his first Masters 1000 final at the 2026 Canadian Open

Nakashima has played a heavy recent schedule of hard-court matches that have extended well beyond two sets.
Nakashima's recent hard-court sets rarely separate early: five of 12 matches ran to three sets and seven needed a tiebreak, so his matches have tended to extend rather than finish quickly. He has won six of 12 second sets, so that length has not always come with control. The pattern is a useful counterweight to the shorter matches Bublik has been playing in this format.
- Nakashima's 12 hard-court best-of-three matches from 6 August to 9 October 2026 averaged 25.67 total games
- Seven of the 12 matches included a tiebreak
- Five of the 12 went to three sets; he won the first set in seven and the second set in six
Bublik's first Shanghai win matters because it removes a long-standing blank at a hard-court Masters 1000 and came with only one break point conceded and 18 aces, showing his serve functioning in Shanghai conditions. Its limit is the opponent: Machac is ranked outside the top 70, so the result does not demonstrate a changed level against higher-ranked opposition. It is therefore a genuine milestone rather than direct evidence of a playing advantage in this third-round match.
- Bublik beat Tomas Machac 6-4 7-6(4) in the Shanghai second round
- He conceded one break point and hit 18 aces
- It was his first win at the Shanghai Masters and leaves him with a win at all nine Masters 1000 events
