Context last updated 4 Oct 2026, 17:08 · Europe/Bucharest

Ribecai, ranked 277, arrives in Palermo without a 2026 win on clay (three defeats, two of eight sets), while the 900-ranked left-hander Sanchez Martinez is 7-5 across 12 tracked clay matches.

That points to Sanchez Martinez, with a two-set finish the more likely shape, though his latest clay match was a 3-6 1-6 loss on 29 September. No price was supplied to weigh, so there is nothing to back at a price.

Context

Ribecai comes to Palermo with his 2026 clay results still empty of a win.
Across those three matches he won 26 of 70 games (37.1%) and converted six of 20 break points (30%), taking 44.9% of total points. He is the higher-ranked player in this first round, but the surface has given him nothing to build on so far this season, and three matches in a two-week July window is a narrow base for projecting how he will play here.
- 2026 clay record: 0 wins, 3 losses across 3 tracked matches, 14 to 28 July 2026
- Won 2 of 8 clay sets (25%) and 26 of 70 games (37.1%)
- Break points converted on clay: 6 of 20 (30%); total points won 210 of 468 (44.9%)
The opening set has held up for Ribecai on clay this season; the second has not.
He averaged 4.33 games won and 4.33 lost in first sets, then 2.67 won against 6.33 lost in second sets, with no tiebreaks across the three matches. Sanchez Martinez has a 7-5 second-set record over 12 tracked clay matches, so the phase where Ribecai has struggled most is the phase his opponent has handled better.
- 3 tracked clay matches, 14 to 28 July 2026
- First sets: 2 wins, 1 loss, 4.33 games won and 4.33 lost on average
- Second sets: 0 wins, 3 losses, 2.67 games won and 6.33 lost on average
- No tiebreaks in those 3 matches
Clay is where Sanchez Martinez has played almost all of his recorded tennis this season, and he has finished ahead more often than not.
Six of the 12 matches ended as 2-0 wins and one as a 2-1 win, while his first sets went 8-4 and three of the matches featured a tiebreak. The record covers 12 matches across roughly three months, no serve or return numbers are available for him, and the two excluded retirements mean only completed matches are counted.
- Clay record 7-5 across 12 tracked matches, 24 June to 29 September 2026
- Scorelines: 2-0 in 6 matches, 2-1 in 1, 0-2 in 3, 1-2 in 2
- First sets 8-4 on clay; 3 matches with a tiebreak
- Two retirements excluded from the 12-match sample
The freshest evidence for Sanchez Martinez is a one-sided clay defeat.
He won four of the 16 games in that match and was broken twice in each set, and it is the only September clay match in the supplied record, sitting five days before this first round. Cadenasso, ranked 222, is the highest-ranked opponent in the six matches shown for him, so this reads as the toughest test in the listed run rather than a full collapse of the season's clay form.
- 29 September 2026: lost 3-6 1-6 to Gianluca Cadenasso (ranked 222) on clay
- Won 4 of 16 games in that match, 1-2 in sets
