Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 3 Oct 2026, 15:40 · Europe/Bucharest

Lehecka is higher-ranked and the likelier winner, but Vallejo has won five of his last six matches, came through qualifying and has not dropped a set in the Tokyo main draw.

Vallejo with a 3.5-game start at 1.85 is the one quoted price that offers anything; Lehecka at 1.35 to win the match asks for more than his form supports.

Context

Beating the 2024 runner-up at the same venue after dropping the first set is the clearest recent evidence that Lehecka can solve hard-court opponents at this tournament, including from behind. It also means he arrives in the quarterfinal off a three-set match, with his Tokyo wins this week coming against Zizou Bergs and Humbert rather than higher-ranked opposition. The limitation is the slow start: he had to reverse the match rather than control it.
- Humbert was the runner-up at the 2024 Japan Open.
- Lehecka lost the first set 5-7 before winning the next two sets 6-4.
- The win secured the last quarterfinal place in Tokyo.

Two straight wins over top-50 opponents, one of them a former Wimbledon finalist, are the strongest evidence available of Vallejo's level on these courts. The Berrettini match turned on four set points that were not converted, showing how narrow the margin was before the second set ran away. Qualifying also means Vallejo has played four matches in Tokyo this week against Lehecka's two, an accumulated-workload difference created by his route into the draw.
- Vallejo entered the main draw through qualifying and reached the quarterfinals on his ATP 500 debut.
- Berrettini held four set points in the first set before Vallejo won the tiebreak 8-6 and the second set 6-1.
- Vallejo beat Rafael Jodar and Berrettini in consecutive rounds.
ConfirmedSources checked 3 Oct 2026, 15:37 · Europe/Bucharest
Lehecka's serve has been the most dependable part of his game in this window, and it is the main reason he starts this quarterfinal as the favourite.
If the serve holds near that rate, Vallejo's return games will be under pressure for most of the match, and the qualifier will need his own first serve to stay level. Lehecka struck 99 aces across his 12 tracked matches with serve data, so this is not a one-match spike. The counterweight is that he has still been taken to three sets in both of his Tokyo wins.
- Lehecka has won 76% of first-serve points on hard courts, 373 of 491 points, across the 10 tracked matches with serve data up to 3 October 2026.
- He averaged 6.9 aces and 2.9 double faults per match in those 10 hard-court matches.
- Across his 12 tracked matches with serve data he struck 99 aces.
Vallejo, the qualifier, has been the faster starter in the tracked hard-court window, which matters against an opponent whose two Tokyo wins both went the distance.
A quick opening set would spare Vallejo from having to recover against the bigger server, and five of those 11 matches ended in straight-set wins, so he has closed from the front before. The second set has been less secure, six wins to five losses with 4.82 games to 4.45, which puts extra weight on the first. One retirement was excluded from that 11-match sample.
- Vallejo won 8 of 11 first sets in completed hard-court matches between 2 August and 3 October 2026.
- Those first sets averaged 5.45 games to 3.82, with two tiebreaks.
- His second sets in the same sample were 6-5 with 4.82 games to 4.45.
- One retired match was excluded from the 11-match sample.
