Pre-match view

Context last updated 15 Sep 2026, 15:30 · Europe/Bucharest

Luca Castelnuovo's superior recent hard-court form and stronger serve/return metrics give him a clear edge over Elias Ymer.

Betting value lies in Castelnuovo to win the match at 2.75 and the first set at 2.50. Expect a competitive match with potential for over 21.5 games and over 12.5 aces.

Context

Castelnuovo, 398th, is a left-hander with a one-handed backhand and has built most of his career wins on hard courts.
His recent hard-court sample shows a 61.5% win rate and better serve numbers than Ymer's 33.3% win rate over the same surface. Ymer's return points won on hard courts are only 34.4%, which could make it difficult to break Castelnuovo's serve.
- Castelnuovo's last 13 hard-court matches: 8 wins, 5 losses (61.5% win rate).
- Ymer's last 9 hard-court matches: 3 wins, 6 losses (33.3% win rate).
- Castelnuovo wins 75.7% of first-serve points on hard courts; Ymer wins 67.7%.
Elias Ymer, 30, is the higher-ranked player at No. 197 and a right-hander with a two-handed backhand. He retired from his last match on September 1 after collapsing twice on court.
The retirement was later described as heatstroke with no serious consequences, so it is not an ongoing injury concern. Ymer has since played and won a match on September 14, which supports that he is able to compete.
- The 1 September Zhangjiagang first-round match ended with Ymer retired at 7-6(4), 5-5.
- The subsequent medical account described heatstroke and no serious consequences.
- Stored recent sample: 2 wins from 5 tracked matches.
- A tracked match on 2026-09-01T00:00:00.000Z against Yu Hsiou Hsu ended by retirement; the stored result was L.

Ymer, 197th, has played a heavy schedule with 15 matches in the last two months.
He retired against Yu Hsiou Hsu after losing the first set and trailing 5-5 in the second. He returned to play on September 14 and won, but the retirement is recent enough to create uncertainty about his physical condition in a best-of-three match.
- On 2026-09-01, Ymer retired against Yu Hsiou Hsu at 7-6(4) 5-5.
- He played again on 2026-09-14 and won in three sets, suggesting he is able to compete.
Castelnuovo has played 15 matches in the last two months, with several going to three sets.
He won his last match when Omar Jasika retired in the third set, and he retired himself against Matthew Dellavedova on September 1. These physical interruptions could affect his rhythm or stamina if this match goes long.
- On 2026-09-15, Castelnuovo won when Omar Jasika retired at 1-0 in the third set.
- On 2026-09-01, Castelnuovo retired against Matthew Dellavedova at 4-1 in the third set.
