Pre-match view

Context last updated 26 Oct 2026, 03:12 · Europe/Bucharest

Two players two ranking places apart meet in the final qualifying round at Sioux Falls, and Ostapenkov holds the marginally better hard-court record at 8-6 in 14 matches against Young's 7-8 in 15.

Ostapenkov to win the match at 2.3 and to take the opening set at 2.2 are both priced generously enough to be worth a look. Young at 1.55 to win is not.

Context

No head-to-head history, no availability news and no research findings; interest rests on two closely matched hard-court records and Young's first-set pattern.

Young's opening-set record is the weakest part of his hard-court sample.
Across 15 completed hard-court matches from 10 July to 25 October 2026, Young won five first sets and lost ten, averaging 4.33 games won against 5.53 lost. Only one of those matches produced a first-set tiebreak, so the sets are being decided before they reach the end rather than on a shootout. Ostapenkov, level at 7-7 in first sets, is the better-placed of the two at the start.
- 15 completed hard-court matches (10 July to 25 October 2026): Young won 5 first sets and lost 10.
- First-set games: 4.33 won against 5.53 lost per set.
- One first-set tiebreak across those 15 matches.
From 2 August to 25 October 2026, Ostapenkov played 14 completed hard-court matches and half of them contained at least one tiebreak, five in the first set and two in the second. His opening sets average 10.29 total games and his first-set record is 7-7, so he is neither dominating nor being dominated early. Young has played only two tiebreak matches in 15, which is the opposite pattern on how long these sets run.
- 14 completed hard-court matches (2 August to 25 October 2026): 7 included at least one tiebreak.
- Five of those tiebreaks came in the first set, two in the second.
- First sets average 10.29 total games; first-set record is 7-7.
The 25 October win over Miyoshi is the highest-ranked opponent Young has beaten in the six matches listed, and it came indoors on the same Sioux Falls courts. The 7-5 7-5 scoreline never reached a tiebreak, so the match was settled on small margins inside each set. It was also the one match in his last six where he took the opening set, which makes his first-set record elsewhere the obvious pressure point.
- 25 October 2026: beat Kenta Miyoshi (ranked 441) 7-5 7-5, winning 14 games to 10.
- Indoor hard court at Sioux Falls; no tiebreak in either set.
- Miyoshi's ranking of 441 is the highest of the opponents Young beat in the six matches listed.
