Two Italians three ranking places apart, Bondioli at 326 and Forti at 329, meet for a place in the Florence quarter-finals, with little between them beyond Bondioli's comeback win over top seed Zdenek Kolar.

Bondioli is the slightly likelier winner, and at even money he is the one quoted price worth taking. Forti at 1.73 asks for more than his straight-set opening win justifies.

Context

Kolar was the highest-ranked man in the Florence field at No. 206, and beating him after losing the first set is Bondioli's strongest result of this Italian clay swing. The last two sets went 6-3, 6-2, so the 21-year-old closed out the match in three sets and kept his court time in the round to a normal range. It removes the draw's top seed from Bondioli's path and puts him in a home round of 16, but one win over a player 120 places above him does not by itself make him the stronger side of this pairing.
- Kolar, the top seed, was ranked No. 206 and Bondioli No. 326
- Bondioli lost the first set 4-6 before winning 6-3, 6-2
- The win put Bondioli into the Florence second round

Forti's 6-2 7-6(3) win came without surrendering a service game, the cleanest serving performance either Italian produced in the Florence first round. He reached the round of 16 in straight sets while Bondioli needed three, a small difference in workload before a 21 October meeting. The limit is that Forejtek sits at No. 299 and the second set was settled by a single mini-break, so the scoreline flatters the margin more than the tennis did.
- Forti beat Forejtek, ranked No. 299, 6-2 7-6(3)
- Forti held serve throughout, including the second-set tiebreak
- The win set up an all-Italian second round against Bondioli

Bondioli's clay record splits sharply by set: he has won only four of thirteen opening sets but ten of thirteen second sets.
Forti's stronger starts give him the edge in the opening set, and Bondioli's habit of losing it makes an early deficit a live risk here. The flip side is that Bondioli has been markedly better in second sets, which points to a longer match if he is broken early.
- 13 completed clay matches, 16 June to 19 October 2026
- Set 1: 4 won, 9 lost, averaging 4.0 games won and 5.23 lost
- Set 2: 10 won, 3 lost, averaging 5.62 games won and 4.38 lost
- One first-set and two second-set tiebreaks in the sample
Forti has reached the finish quickly on clay this swing: eleven of his fourteen matches ended in straight sets.
Forti's clay matches have mostly been settled in two sets, so a short straight-set finish fits his profile. Bondioli's sample runs the other way, with eight three-set matches in thirteen, so the match-length picture is genuinely mixed.
- 14 completed clay matches, 30 August to 19 October 2026
- Seven 2-0 wins, four 0-2 defeats, one 2-1 win and two 1-2 defeats
- Average 21.4 total games and 2.21 sets per match
- Bondioli's 13 clay matches average 25.7 total games and 2.62 sets
