Context last updated 17 Oct 2026, 22:23 · Europe/Bucharest

Shevchenko is the higher-ranked man and beat No.

61 Kecmanovic this week, but Sunday is his third match in three days after a three-setter following a flight from China, while Sakellaridis arrives on three days' rest. Shevchenko still looks the likelier winner, yet 1.45 does not justify that; the quotes with something in them are Sakellaridis at 2.75 to win and 2.4 to take the opening set.

Context

Shevchenko's Almaty first round was his second match in two days: he lost the Jinan quarter-final in China, travelled to Kazakhstan, then went three sets against Glinka, breaking at 6-5 in the decider to avoid a second tiebreak. He therefore plays a third match in three days in the qualifying final, while Sakellaridis had three clear days and spent only two sets in his opener. The asymmetry is physical and logistical rather than a documented fitness problem, and Shevchenko did close out the deciding set from 6-5, so the heavier load had not visibly cost him before this match.
- Shevchenko beat Glinka 6-3, 6-7(4), 7-5 in the Almaty first qualifying round, breaking at 6-5 in the decider.
- Shevchenko played his Jinan Challenger quarter-final in China on Friday, the day before the Almaty opener, with no day off between events.
- Sakellaridis beat Bar Biryukov 6-2, 6-3 to reach the qualifying final for a main-draw place.
- Sakellaridis's previous match was a 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-3 loss to Keegan Smith in Jinan on 13 October.

It shows Shevchenko can beat a top-70 player in straight sets on this surface, a level Sakellaridis has not met this week. Against that, it is one result inside a 4-7 hard-court window, and his other Almaty win came against No. 178.
- 13 October 2026: Shevchenko beat Miomir Kecmanovic, ranked No. 61, 6-3 6-4 on hard court.
- He won 12 games to 7 across the two sets.
Almaty is Kazakhstan's ATP 250 and Shevchenko is the home entrant, yet he sits in the qualifying draw at No. 111 rather than in the main draw, well below the No. 45 he held in February 2024. The stake is concrete: a win puts him into the main draw of his home event, a loss leaves him without a tour-level match this week. The ranking drop carries no reported physical cause this week, so the home element stays descriptive rather than a measured advantage, and it is the entry route rather than crowd effect that explains what is unusual about his position here.
- Shevchenko is the third seed in the Almaty qualifying draw and is ranked 111th.
- Shevchenko's career-high ranking of No. 45 dates to February 2024.
- Shevchenko is listed as Kazakhstan's player in the Almaty qualifying results.
ReportedSources checked 17 Oct 2026, 22:22 · Europe/Bucharest
Almaty's qualifying closes on Sunday 18 October with four finals, and this one holds a Center Court slot rather than an outside court, giving two of the qualifying draw's better-ranked entrants a show court for the last main-draw place. Shevchenko is the third seed and Sakellaridis the sixth, so the draw placed both near the top of that final round. The winner also inherits a main-draw first round in the following days, meaning the accumulated work of the past week carries into the event proper instead of ending with qualification.
- The Almaty Open qualifying final between Shevchenko and Sakellaridis is listed on Center Court for Sunday 18 October.
- Four qualifying finals are scheduled for Sunday 18 October, including Safiullin against Simakin and Diallo against Sakamoto.
- Sakellaridis is the sixth seed in the Almaty qualifying draw and ranked 135th.
