Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 16 Oct 2026, 22:12 · Europe/Bucharest

Two players with matching 7-7 recent hard-court records meet in Ningbo qualifying, and the opening set is where they separate: Sawangkaew is 7-7 in first sets, Kudermetova 4-10.

Sawangkaew is the likelier winner, but 1.85 on the match and 1.8 on the opening set give no clear advantage. Kudermetova to win 2-1 at 4.25 and a deciding set at 2.3 are the two prices worth considering.

Context

Both players are in the Ningbo draw and on the schedule, so these are durability flags rather than availability doubts. Kudermetova's timeout came in a match she lost 6-2 6-1, winning three games, and Sawangkaew retired in Suzhou before returning to play three matches in three days the next week. The relevant question is which player can hold her level through a long match, but neither episode carries a public diagnosis and both competed again afterwards, so this remains a watch rather than a confirmed restriction.
- Kudermetova received a medical timeout at 1-2 in the first set of her Wuhan qualifying match against Katie Volynets .
- Sawangkaew's 6 October 2026 match against Linda Fruhvirtova in Suzhou ended with a retirement at 6-2 2-0.
- Both players competed again later in the same swing: Kudermetova finished the Wuhan match, and Sawangkaew played three Wuhan matches on 10-.

Sawangkaew's Wuhan week is her most recent completed hard-court evidence, and it includes a straight-sets win over No. 66 Anna Bondar and a first-round loss in which she recovered from a 3-5 deficit in the second set before losing a tiebreak. It matters because it shows her converting tight sets against top-70 opposition, a step above her lower-level results earlier in the season. The counterweight is the load: three matches on consecutive days from 10 to, immediately after a retirement, so her freshness in Ningbo is not established.
- Sawangkaew beat Maya Joint 4-6 6-2 7-6(3) and Anna Bondar 7-6(5) 7-6(5) to reach the Wuhan main draw.
- She lost 6-3 7-6(5) to Magdalena Frech in the Wuhan first round .
- The three matches were played on consecutive days, 10 to .

Mirra Andreeva was ranked No. 3 and went on to reach the Beijing final, so Kudermetova's defeat was an exit to a finalist rather than a collapse. The Tauson win is the notable part: a top-55 seed beaten over three sets, with both of Kudermetova's Beijing victories going the distance. It matters because it is the strongest completed hard-court form she has shown in this stretch, after first-round qualifying losses at the US Open and Cincinnati in August. The limitation is that it is only two matches, followed days later by a 6-2 6-1 loss to Katie Volynets.
- Kudermetova beat Yexin Ma 6-7(2) 6-3 6-2 at the China Open.
- She then beat No. 32 seed Clara Tauson 6-4 4-6 6-4.
- Mirra Andreeva beat her 6-4 6-1 in the third round and went on to reach the Beijing final.

Kudermetova, the world No. 102, has reached 7-7 on hard courts largely through long wins and short defeats.
Kudermetova wins only after a fight and loses quickly, so her record points to a deciding set whenever she is competitive. Her first sets went 4-10 in the same 14-match window, which puts the opening set under pressure. Sawangkaew's straighter, shorter matches make a two-set finish at least as plausible.
- Kudermetova was 7-7 in 14 completed hard-court matches between 13 July and 10 October 2026, with one retirement excluded from the sample.
- Five of her seven wins came in three sets and only two in straight sets; six of her seven defeats were in straight sets.
- Her set record over the same sample was 4-10 in first sets and 6-8 in second sets, with 8 of the 14 matches containing a tiebreak.
- Her matches averaged 24.4 total games.
