Context last updated 7 Oct 2026, 22:13 · Europe/Bucharest

Braga's defending champion meets a qualifier who has gone three sets in every match this week.

Luka Mikrut, ranked 167, has won 10 of his last 11 completed clay matches and should have too much for Oleksii Krutykh, though his title-winning week in Genoa is a workload counterweight. The reviewed prices — Mikrut at 1.25, 1.30 in each of the first two sets, 1.73 for a 2-0 win — ask more than the case justifies; Krutykh at 3.5 offers nothing. No quoted price is worth taking.

Context

Mikrut won the Genoa 2 Challenger, ending a wait of almost exactly a year for his third Challenger title. That is a concrete form anchor for this fixture: the seventh seed at No. 167 is playing a qualifier ranked 456, and the title week was played on clay. It also means he had already completed five clay matches and a final before arriving in Portugal, so his strongest recent results and his heaviest recent workload belong to the same player.
- Mikrut beat Carlo Alberto Caniato 6-4, 7-5 in the Genoa final .
- The title was the third Challenger crown of his career and his first since 29 September 2025.
- His Genoa run added five clay-court wins in six days immediately before the Braga swing.

Krutykh reached this second round the long way: two qualifying wins and a three-set first round, all three matches decided in a third set, spread across four days on site. That is an asymmetric workload in this fixture, since Mikrut played a single straight-sets match in the same window. It also shows Krutykh has been converting long matches rather than winning quickly, with nine sets played in Braga against Mikrut's two.
- Krutykh entered the Braga singles main draw from the qualifying competition.
- He beat Francisco Rocha and then Filip Pieczonka 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 in qualifying, both in three sets.
- He beat Javier Barranco Cosano 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the first round .

Mikrut is back at the tournament he won in 2025 and opened the defence with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Sumit Nagal . The title gives this second round a stake beyond the ranking gap, because he is defending a completed winning run at the same event against an opponent who came through qualifying. A straight-sets win over a player ranked No. 253 is a current form reference that the seeding alone does not provide.
- Mikrut won the 2025 Braga Open singles title and returned as the defending champion.
- He was seeded seventh in the 2026 singles draw, with a ranking of No. 166 on 28 September 2026.
- He beat Sumit Nagal 6-2, 6-4 in the Braga first round .

Krutykh won a Davis Cup singles rubber for Ukraine, beating Melios Efstathiou 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 in a 3-1 tie win over Cyprus that sent Ukraine to the World Group I play-offs. It is his fifth singles win in eight Davis Cup appearances and the last competitive reference before his Braga qualifying run. The tie was a national-team occasion rather than a clay Challenger, so it speaks to his September rhythm more than to conditions here.
- Krutykh beat Melios Efstathiou 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 in a Davis Cup World Group II singles rubber .
- Ukraine beat Cyprus 3-1 in the tie and advanced to the World Group I play-offs.
- It was Krutykh's fifth singles win in eight Davis Cup appearances for Ukraine.
