Moez Echargui #356Tunisia00 – 2Daniil Glinka #178Estonia2

Glinka needed three sets and finished, so he plays this second round roughly a day later and off a longer match than Echargui, who closed out a straight-sets win on 5 October and has had two clear days. With leftover first-round matches also pushed into 7 October, the day carries more accumulated play than a normal second-round session. The margin is specific but modest — one extra set and one extra recovery day — so it matters most if this match runs to a deciding set.

Echargui arrived in Villena off a 7-5 6-0 win over Damir Dzumhur, then ranked No. 103, and then took his opening match here in straight sets against No. 231 Brancaccio. It leaves him on a settled block of hard-court results and two clear days before this match, with no sign of a physical interruption in his week. The limitation is the immediate context: Edas Butvilas beat him 6-1 7-5 in Porto on 1 October, so beating Brancaccio restores continuity rather than marking a step above his recent level.

Glinka lost the opening set before taking the next two from Onclin, who is ranked No. 168 to Glinka's No. 178, so he arrives having already adjusted to these courts and closed out a match from behind. The cost is that the three-setter ran, leaving him to back it up the next morning. It reads as resilience in a single match rather than a broader surge: Glinka had lost two of his three completed matches in the fortnight before Villena.

The single previous encounter was a 6-1 6-0 win for Echargui in October 2021, which reads as a strong pointer until the level is weighed. That match came at ITF M15 level, two tiers below this Challenger, and it is the only professional data point between the two. Five years on, with Glinka now the higher-ranked player, the lopsided score has limited bearing on a second round at this level.
