Context last updated 7 Oct 2026, 02:20 · Europe/Bucharest

Top seed Zdenek Kolar carries the steadier clay record, yet Michele Ribecai has forced a deciding set in each of his three tracked clay matches.

Kolar, ranked 196, is still the likely winner over No. 282 Ribecai in this Palermo second round. Two Kolar prices hold up: 1.7 to win and 2.6 for a 2-0 win.

Context

Kolar needed only two sets against a qualifier ranked outside the top 500, while Ribecai had to recover from a set down and play three sets against a low-ranked opponent. Both won and return on 7 October, so the observable difference is roughly one extra set on Ribecai's legs within the same clay week, which matters most for a lower-ranked player trying to hold level late in a match. The counterweight is that both had a full day between rounds, so a single extra set is a modest rather than decisive difference.
- Kolar beat qualifier Dimitris Sakellaridis 6-4 6-4 in the Palermo first round .
- Ribecai beat Benito Sánchez Martínez 5-7 7-5 6-0 in the Palermo first round .
- Kolar entered the Palermo Challenger as its No. 1 seed.
- The second-round winner advances to the Palermo quarterfinals.

Kolar's last completed tournament before Palermo was Szczecin in mid-September, where he strung together two wins, including a straight-sets all-Czech match against Hynek Barton, before a heavy 6-1 6-3 quarterfinal loss to Nikolás Sánchez Izquierdo. That sequence shows he was still collecting consecutive Challenger wins but was recently outplayed by a higher-ranked opponent. The limitation is that the run is three weeks old and at a different tournament, so it maps only loosely onto this Palermo fixture.
- Kolar beat Hynek Barton 6-4 6-4 in the Szczecin round of 16 .
- Kolar lost 6-1 6-3 to Nikolás Sánchez Izquierdo in the Szczecin quarterfinals .
- Kolar was the seventh seed in Szczecin.

Kolar's win and quarterfinal totals at Challenger level are unusually high for the current field, which frames the level gap against a 23-year-old opponent at a career-high ranking near No. 259. The depth of week-to-week Challenger experience is a reason his ranking of No. 196 is not a full description of the difficulty he presents. The caveat is that career totals measure longevity, not current form, and this moment of his career sits well below his 2022 peak.
- Kolar's career ATP Challenger match-win total was listed at 245 in mid-September 2026.
- Kolar's career Challenger quarterfinal count was listed at 59 in mid-September 2026.
ReportedSources checked 7 Oct 2026, 02:19 · Europe/Bucharest
Both of Ribecai's September defeats came on hard or indoor courts, while Palermo is clay, and hard court is his preferred surface, so those results are only a partial guide to this match. Losing to a player ranked near No. 1175 says more about the floor of his level that week than about his ceiling on clay. His three-set comeback in the Palermo opener is the most recent evidence and points the other way, so the two prior defeats should be read alongside it rather than as a current trend.
- Ribecai lost to Titouan Droguet 7-6(1) 6-4 in Rennes .
- Ribecai lost in Saint-Tropez qualifying to Mathys Domenc, the French teenager's biggest career win.
