Context last updated 6 Oct 2026, 15:26 · Europe/Bucharest

Second round at Wuning: Saitoh brings the stronger hard-court form (11-4 in his last 15) but has played three matches in three days, while Moriya arrives off a three-set win over No.

202 Keegan Smith. Saitoh to win at 1.9 is the one quoted price worth taking; Moriya at 1.8 is not.

Context

Saitoh enters this round of 16 having played three singles matches in three days, including a three-set qualifying win, while Moriya will be playing only his second match of the week after a first-round three-setter of his own. The added workload is real and is the clearest asymmetry in the match. Saitoh's straight-sets win over Palan, plus a 6-1 6-0 opener, suggests he handled the quick turnaround, so fatigue is a plausible factor rather than a settled one.
- Saitoh beat Zicong Wang 6-1 6-0 in the opening qualifying round .
- Saitoh came from a set down to beat Yusuke Takahashi 4-6 6-3 6-2 to qualify.
- Saitoh beat Dominik Palan 7-6(4) 6-4 in the first round .

Saitoh's record improves as matches progress: 8 of 15 first sets won and 11 of 15 second sets won in the window.
If this match reaches a second set, Saitoh has been the one closing it out - 11 wins from 15 completed hard-court matches in the window. The 5.0 to 3.4 games margin means those sets have rarely needed a tiebreak. Moriya has won 8 of his own 15 second sets, so this is a place where Saitoh's record has been strongest rather than a set he is certain to take.
- Saitoh has won 11 of 15 second sets across 15 completed hard-court matches from 18 August to 6 October 2026, with 5.0 games won and 3.4 lost on average.
- He has lost four second sets in that same sample.
Saitoh has taken 49 of 84 break points and saved 48 of 81 across his last 15 hard-court matches, and that work sits behind a 56% share of games and 52.4% of points won. Sets on this evidence turn on a handful of return games rather than long exchanges. Moriya's conversion over the same window is 43.7% (45 of 103).
- Over 15 tracked hard-court matches Saitoh has converted 49 of 84 break points (58.3%) and saved 48 of 81 (59.3%).
- The same sample shows 56% of games and 52.4% of points won.
Moriya has given away more free points on serve than he has won outright: 49 double faults against 41 aces across 15 tracked hard-court matches, 3.3 against 2.7 per match. The pattern is the reverse of Saitoh's, who has averaged 1.2 double faults per match in the same sample size. In a match where both players' recent sets have been short, one loose service game can be enough to settle a set.
- Moriya's 15 tracked hard-court matches include 49 double faults (3.3 per match) and 41 aces (2.7 per match).
- The latest of those matches was completed on 6 October 2026.
