Pre-match view

Context last updated 6 Oct 2026, 01:24 · Europe/Bucharest

Saitoh is back on court for a third straight day after two qualifying wins, but he returns better and has the better recent hard-court record, so he should come through, most likely in two sets.

The quoted prices, Saitoh to win at 1.40, Saitoh to win 2-0 at 2.00 and Saitoh to win the second set at 1.45, all ask for more than that form supports, so none is worth taking.

Context

Saitoh, the world No. 550 and a left-hander, has often taken charge of matches after slow openings rather than from the first ball.
The split is a warning as much as a strength: he has regularly surrendered the opening set before taking control, so an early lead for Palan is a realistic path, while the second-set numbers still favour Saitoh once the match reaches that stage.
- Saitoh's 15 completed hard-court matches, 1 August to 5 October 2026: set 1 record 7-8, set 2 record 11-4
- Set 2 games across those 15 matches: 5.07 won, 3.53 lost per match
- Total games average 19.3 and total sets average 2.27 over the same window
Palan, the world No. 631, has played mostly short matches recently, with only five of his last 15 going the full three sets.
His recent hard-court results are usually settled inside two sets, and the straight-set results have gone against him far more often than for him, which matters in a best-of-three first round where the match is more likely to finish in two sets than three.
- Palan's 15 completed hard-court matches from 13 July to 28 September 2026 ended 6-9
- Scoreline distribution across those 15 matches: six 0-2 defeats, three 1-2 defeats, four 2-0 wins, two 2-1 wins
- Total games average 22.9 and total sets average 2.33 across the same 15 matches
Saitoh played two qualifying matches in Wuning on 4 and, the second a three-set win over Yusuke Takahashi, and takes the court for this first-round match on a third consecutive day of competition. Palan entered the main draw directly, so he arrives without any match at this event, fresher than his opponent but without local match rhythm. The asymmetry is modest rather than decisive: a two-match qualifying route is ordinary for a player outside the main-draw cut, and the extra court time sits against Saitoh's advantage in recent competitive sharpness on this surface.
- Wuning Open 3 qualifying: Keisuke Saitoh def. Zicong Wang 6-1, 6-0
- Wuning Open 3 qualifying: Keisuke Saitoh def. Yusuke Takahashi 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 to reach the main draw
- Wuning 3 first-round pairings after qualifying: (Q) Keisuke Saitoh vs Dominik Palan
ConfirmedSources checked 6 Oct 2026, 01:23 · Europe/Bucharest
Saitoh completed a five-match hard-court title week in Japan, closing Sapporo with a three-set semi-final and a three-set final, which is the strongest single piece of evidence for his current form on the surface used in Wuning. Its value is bounded: the opponents across that run were ranked in the 600s and 800s or were unranked, so it verifies sustained winning rather than a level test against Challenger-standard opposition. It also means he arrived in China three weeks later with a full competitive week behind him rather than a gap in his schedule.

- Uchiyama Cup Sapporo semi-final: Keisuke Saitoh vs Seongchan Hong
- Uchiyama Cup Sapporo final: Jerry Roddick vs Keisuke Saitoh
