Context last updated 1 Oct 2026, 15:19 · Europe/Bucharest

Tjen has just come through a three-set first round in Beijing to set up this second-round meeting with Shnaider, the world No. 14, who has spent the hard-court season closing matches out in straight sets.

Shnaider is the likely winner and the likely first-set winner. Of the quoted prices, Tjen with a 4.5-game start at 1.8 is the pick, with Shnaider to win the match at 1.33 and the first set at 1.44 leaving a little at their quotes.

Context

Tjen arrives in the second round with recent competitive rhythm in Beijing, having just come through a three-set match on these courts, while Shnaider's most recent completed match came in early September during the North American hard-court swing. Ranking still makes the No. 11 seed the clear favourite, so the value of Tjen's win is that she starts against a higher-ranked opponent who has not yet been tested at this event. The trade-off is the physical load of that first-round effort, the type of early-round cost that tends to surface against a top-15 player.
- First-round win over Kalinina, 2-6 7-5 6-4
- Came from a set down and from a break down in the decider
- Sets up a second-round meeting with the No. 11 seed
ReportedSources checked 1 Oct 2026, 15:16 · Europe/BucharestWTA Tenniswww.wtatennis.com · 30 Sep 2026
Shnaider's recent hard-court record is built on short, straight-set wins rather than long battles.
Her 13 tracked hard-court matches average 19.9 games, the shortest pattern between the two players, and eight of them were closed out in two sets. One loss in the same sample did go to three sets, so the straight-set habit is a tendency rather than a certainty.
- 8 of 13 tracked hard-court matches finished 2-0 (30 July – 4 September 2026)
- Set scorelines across those 13 matches: 2-0 eight times, 0-2 three times, 2-1 once, 1-2 once
- Average total games per match: 19.9
Beijing is a mandatory WTA 1000 event and it overlapped directly with the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, where Tjen would have been part of Indonesia's team. She is playing here instead, which frames how she is treating this swing: ranking points and tour obligations ahead of a multi-sport championship. For this fixture it means her schedule is built entirely around tour hard-court events rather than a two-week multi-sport competition.
- Tjen is in the Beijing main draw during the Asian Games window
- She is listed among the WTA players who skipped the Aichi-Nagoya Games for the mandatory Beijing event
ReportedSources checked 1 Oct 2026, 15:16 · Europe/Bucharest
The pairing gives Tjen a marquee doubles partner at the event that follows Beijing, reflecting the higher profile she has reached in the region this season. It also adds doubles to her workload on the same Asian swing immediately after the China Open. The arrangement does not alter how this second-round match is likely to be played, but it shows which events she and her team have targeted to keep her tennis going through October.
- Tjen and Williams are listed as a doubles pairing for the Guangzhou Open
- Williams has been given singles and doubles wild cards for the event
