Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 25 Sep 2026, 15:19 · Europe/Bucharest

Shapovalov's hard-court form and a 3-1 head-to-head, including a 6-1 6-4 win six weeks ago, make him the favourite against a Mannarino who has just beaten the defending champion in Chengdu; straight sets look the likeliest route.

The 1.33 match price asks more than that case justifies, and the set prices for Shapovalov (1.44 and 1.40) and Under 2.5 sets at 1.45 offer no advantage either. No quoted price is worth taking.

Context

Tabilo arrived as the third seed and the 2025 Chengdu champion, so removing him in straight sets cleared the highest-ranked obstacle in Mannarino's section rather than adding a routine win to his week. Mannarino, 38 and ranked No. 78, had won only two of his previous seven hard-court matches, making a two-set win over a top-35 opponent his strongest result of the hard-court swing. The limitation is that one result does not settle his level: he lost to lower-ranked opponents in four of those seven matches, and the flat left-handed game that troubled Tabilo now has to hold up against a bigger server.
- Mannarino won 6-4 6-4 in 1 hour 35 minutes .
- Tabilo was the third seed and the defending Chengdu champion.
- The win sent Mannarino into a quarter-final against Shapovalov.

The two met on 13 August 2026 on hard courts and Shapovalov won 6-1 6-4, dropping only five games, so this quarter-final repeats a matchup decided comfortably six weeks earlier. Both players have since won two matches in Chengdu without dropping a set, which keeps that meeting a live reference point rather than old history. The counterpoint is that it came in a Masters 1000 first round and Mannarino has since produced his first consecutive tour-level wins since June, so the version of him Shapovalov beat is not necessarily the one he faces here.
- Their most recent meeting was on 13 August 2026 on hard courts.
- Shapovalov won 6-1 6-4.
- Both players have reached this Chengdu quarter-final without dropping a set.

Mannarino has won four and lost five of those nine matches, and four of them included a tie-break.
This matters for how the quarter-final is likely to be shaped: Mannarino's completed hard-court matches have been settled in two sets whether he wins or loses, so a straight-sets finish is not unusual for him. The limitation is sample size — nine matches since late July 2026 — and the record covers only best-of-three matches, so his longer hard-court outings are not part of it.
- Mannarino's hard-court best-of-three sample covers nine matches from 28 July to 25 September 2026.
- Scorelines in that sample: four 2-0 wins and five 0-2 losses; no match went to a deciding set.
- Four of the nine matches contained a tie-break.
The 250-win mark is a career milestone rather than a result that changes this fixture, and it puts Shapovalov alongside Milos Raonic and Felix Auger-Aliassime as the only Canadians to reach it. He got there with a 6-4 7-6(3) win over Tallon Griekspoor, a former top-25 player, which shows he is still converting tour-level matches despite a ranking of No. 50 that sits well below his career-high No. 10. The number says nothing about his level this week; it does establish how much tour-level tennis sits behind this run.
- Shapovalov beat Tallon Griekspoor 6-4 7-6(3) .
- It was his 250th tour-level win.
- He is the third Canadian to reach the mark, after Milos Raonic and Felix Auger-Aliassime.
