Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 25 Sep 2026, 22:15 · Europe/Bucharest

A qualifier ranked No. 385 against the second seed and world No. 95, with a place in the Porto final at stake.

Brantmeier has the marginally stronger hard-court case and has not dropped a set in five matches here, making her the narrow pick in a near-even semi-final. Kraus at 2.2 is the one price with a small edge; the 1.5 on a two-set finish offers none, and Brantmeier's 1.65 asks too much.

Context

This is the deepest run of Brantmeier's professional career, and it has been built entirely from the qualifying draw at a WTA 125. It matters to this fixture because the level of opposition steps up sharply: her quarter-final opponent was a 19-year-old qualifier ranked outside the top 300, while Kraus is the second seed and No. 95. The milestone does not alter the matchup by itself, and Brantmeier's position at No. 385 reflects a player who has spent most of 2026 below main-tour level.
- Brantmeier won her Porto quarter-final against Angelina Voloshchuk 6-3, 6-2 .
- The win takes her into the biggest semi-final of her career to date.

Kraus was treated during the opening set and then completed a three-set win, so the timeout did not end her tournament. What it means for this semi-final is unresolved: the area treated was not visible and no current information sets out the nature or severity of the problem. She returns to court less than 24 hours later, the shortest turnaround of her week, against an opponent who has played five matches without dropping a set.
- A medical timeout was taken for Kraus during the first set of her quarter-final .
- The area being treated was not visible from the broadcast view.
- Kraus went on to win the match in three sets.
To watchSources checked 25 Sep 2026, 22:12 · Europe/Bucharest
This is the only match Kraus has failed to win in straight sets this week, and it was played the day before this semi-final. It matters because it extends her time on court and cuts into recovery ahead of a morning start, while Brantmeier finished her quarter-final in two sets the same day. The counterweight is that Kraus, at No. 95, is the higher-ranked and seeded player here, and she closed the match out in the third set rather than fading.
- Kraus beat Elena Malygina 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 in the quarter-final .
- Kraus had won her two previous rounds in straight sets.
ConfirmedSources checked 25 Sep 2026, 22:12 · Europe/BucharestMatch reportwww.tennismajors.com · 25 Sep 2026
Brantmeier entered through qualifying, so she has played two more matches in Porto this week than Kraus, who entered the main draw directly as the second seed. That matters for a morning semi-final the day after the quarter-finals: five matches in six days is the heavier schedule, and it includes a 7-6 second set against Erika Andreeva in the first round. The load is not one-sided, because her quarter-final against Voloshchuk was the shorter of the two completed .
- Brantmeier beat Naiktha Bains 6-4, 6-4 in the second round .
- Brantmeier won her qualifying final against Sofia Johnson 6-3, 6-4 .
- She has not dropped a set in five matches in Porto.
