An all-Argentine clay quarter-final for a semi-final place: Mena, No. 220 and 11-3 in his last 14 completed clay matches, against Kicker, No. 333, who has twice recovered from a set down this week.

Mena is the likely winner, most probably in straight sets. The quotes agree rather than overprice him: to win at 1.65, the first set at 1.73, the second at 1.73 and 2-0 at 2.5 all offer something, the last most. Kicker at 2.1 to win is one to avoid.

Context

Mena's level this month is documented rather than assumed: he won the Porto Challenger, beating Dellien 7-6(4) 6-4 for a fifth Challenger title and his first since Bogotá in 2024, and climbed back to about No. 215 after a season spent largely outside the top 300. It matters here because the man Mena beat in that final is Dellien, the second seed Kicker eliminated in the previous round, so both quarter-finalists have a common measuring stick from the same fortnight. The title came on European clay in Portugal, not at altitude in Buenos Aires, and three weeks separate that final from this match, so it sets the baseline for his form rather than proving his current level.
- Mena beat Hugo Dellien 7-6(4) 6-4 in the Porto Challenger final .
- It was Mena's fifth ATP Challenger title and his first since Bogotá in 2024.
- Mena moved from roughly No. 350 to No. 215 in the space of about a month.

Kicker's second-round result is the strongest evidence available about his current level: he beat the second seed, ranked 204 places above him, and finished by taking eight consecutive games, so the win was not a single break against the run of play. Against Mena, a clay-court regular who has been winning matches in straight sets, that second-half control over a top-130 opponent is the relevant reference point. The limitation is his baseline: three-set wins in Buenos Aires sit alongside straight-set losses to Maxim Mrva in August and a first-round exit the week before, so one strong round does not yet establish sustained form.
- Kicker beat Hugo Dellien 4-6 7-5 6-0 .
- Kicker won the last eight games of the match.
- Dellien was the second seed and ranked No. 129, 204 places above Kicker.

Mena's clay record over this window is the stronger of the two, but his first sets are the part of his game where he has pulled away least.
Mena's opening sets have landed on 5.21 games won and 5.21 lost across the 14-match window, and 7 of those matches contained a tiebreak. That does not undercut his overall clay numbers, but it does mean the first set has often been the tightest part of his day rather than the part he dominates. Opening sets have averaged 10.4 games, so this quarter-final may well start slowly for him.
- 14 completed clay matches from 11 August to 23 September 2026.
- First sets won 9, lost 5, with five tiebreaks.
- 7 of the 14 matches contained at least one tiebreak.
- Opening sets average 10.4 games (5.21 won, 5.21 lost).
This is a home quarter-final for both men rather than a neutral draw, and the stake is concrete: the winner is in the semi-finals of a 75-level Challenger on clay, with the ranking points and prize money attached to that stage. The host nation is also guaranteed a semi-finalist because the two Argentines draw each other here. Recent sample data shows neither player has a surface edge to bring into it — Mena has played 14 of his last 15 matches on clay and Kicker all 15 — so the venue and stage are shared conditions rather than an asymmetry between them.
- The quarter-final is scheduled for Friday 25 September at the Racket Club in Palermo.
- Both quarter-finalists are Argentine, so the winner reaches the semi-finals and guarantees an Argentine in the last four.
- The event is a 75-level ATP Challenger played on clay.
