Context last updated 23 Sep 2026, 08:50 · Europe/Bucharest

Two Argentines 13 ranking places apart meet in the second round on clay in Buenos Aires, where Mena's 10-3 clay window and a 6-2 6-1 opener make him the likelier winner.

Justo's return game and break-point conversion keep him live. The quoted prices settle nothing: 1.6 on Mena to win the match is roughly fair, the same 1.6 for the opening set asks more than his first-set record supports, and Justo at 2.2 needs more than his clay form shows.

Context

The Porto final is the anchor: Mena closed that week with a straight-sets win over Hugo Dellien and moved from outside the top 300 back into the top 250 in under a month. It matters here because this round of 16 is on clay and Justo has built his ranking on the same surface, so recent level is the clearest separator between two players ranked 13 places apart. Counterpoint: the Porto draw contained no top-100 opponent, and Mena played his first round on Tuesday while Justo finished his on Monday, so Mena takes the court here without a rest day.
- Mena beat Hugo Dellien 7-6(4) 6-4 in the Porto Challenger final .
- The title was his fifth at Challenger level, following Como 2019, Quito 2021, Cali 2022 and Bogotá 2024, and his first in two years.
- It was the 459th Challenger title won by an Argentine player.
- The win moved him from outside the top 300 into the top 250 within roughly a month.

The anchor is Tuesday's 6-2 6-1 win over Olivo on the Racket Club centre court, a two-set match that left him in the round of 16 as the eighth seed. Where it matters is scheduling: he plays again on Wednesday, so he takes the court on consecutive days, while Justo closed his first round on Monday and has a rest day. Counterpoint: the two short sets make that workload light and he is the higher-ranked, higher-seeded player here, so the recovery difference is real but modest, and a straight-sets score over an opponent outside the top 800 says little about how he holds up in a longer, closer clay match.
- Mena beat Renzo Olivo 6-2 6-1 in the first round .
- The match opened Tuesday's schedule on the Racket Club centre court.
- Mena is seeded eighth in the main draw and was ranked No. 220 for the event.

The anchor is Monday's three-set win over Villanueva, which made Justo the first main-draw winner of the tournament and ended a run of three defeats stretching from late July to late August. It matters because it restores him to the round of 16 at his home event, where he is now one win from a quarter-final and playing a compatriot of similar standing rather than a higher-ranked seed. Counterpoint: the win came against a countryman ranked outside the top 300, and the extra set he played makes his week heavier than Mena's two-set opener even with an extra day's rest.
- Justo beat Gonzalo Villanueva 6-4 3-6 6-1 on 21 September 2026 in the first round.
- He was the first player to win a main-draw match at the 2026 edition.
- The win returned him to the round of 16 at this event.
- Justo is from Adrogué, in Buenos Aires province.

The anchor is eight Argentines in the second round of a Challenger 75 on clay at the Racket Club, with a home crowd filling the stands for the local players. For this tie it means neither man gains from travel, surface adaptation or crowd preference, so the home setting explains atmosphere and stakes rather than separating the two. Counterpoint: the same condition applies to most of the draw, including the top seed and 2024 champion Francisco Comesaña, so it is context for reading the match rather than evidence of an advantage for either player.
- The 2026 Buenos Aires Challenger is a Challenger 75 event held at the Racket Club from 20 to 27 September.
- Eight Argentine players, including both men here, reached the second round.
- Both first-round matches in this section were all-Argentine: Mena against Renzo Olivo, Justo against Gonzalo Villanueva.
- Full stands have followed the Argentine players during the week.
