Carlo Alberto Caniato #452Italy22 – 0Alex Barrena #261Argentina0

Barrena, 24, is the Argentine world No. 216 whose career is almost entirely clay-based: 191 of his 194 tour-level wins have come on the surface. Caniato, 22, is an Italian ranked No. 534 who also plays almost exclusively on clay.

Barrena's 10-5 record over the last 15 clay matches is the better recent sample, and he has won his last three matches in Biella without dropping a set. Caniato's 7-8 record includes a first-round loss to No. 576 Pierre Delage, but his 72.3% first-serve points won and 4.6 aces per match are clearly ahead of Barrena's 62.1% and 1.4. That serve gap is the main counterweight to Barrena's results edge.

Caniato and Barrena are both through to the last four at the Biella Challenger, with the semifinal set for 19 September.

A place in the final is the immediate prize, so both arrive with the same stage at stake rather than one player carrying a deeper run. The supplied outlook still leans toward Barrena, but the round itself does not separate them.

Caniato, 22, is an Italian clay-courter ranked No. 534 who has played 38 clay matches in 2026. Barrena, 24, is the higher-ranked Argentine at No. 216 with 48 clay matches this year.

Both players have played three matches in Biella between 15 and 18 September, so neither arrives with a rest advantage. Caniato's three-set win over Brunold lasted longer than any of Barrena's three straight-set wins, but the difference is small and both are used to a heavy clay schedule. The semi-final is unlikely to turn on fatigue.

Caniato, ranked No. 534 and right-handed with a two-handed backhand, also played doubles at Biella.

He and Massimo Giunta lost their doubles quarterfinal 7-6(5), 6-2 on 17 September, adding a two-set match to his singles week. That is a small extra load, and the stored sample of four wins from five tracked matches suggests he has handled recent work without obvious trouble.
