Context last updated 17 Sep 2026, 15:08 · Europe/Bucharest

Simakin (ATP 177) is a strong favourite over Hewitt (ATP 333), backed by a 14-1 hard-court run, 60.1% games won and a clear serve/return edge.

Best angles are Simakin to win at 1.29 and the -3.5 game handicap at 1.80; avoid the 2-0 set-betting price at 1.80 given his tendency to drop a set.

Context

Simakin, 25, is ranked No. 177 and has spent almost his entire career on hard courts, with 185 of his 201 tour-level wins coming on the surface. Hewitt, 17, is ranked No. 333 and is the son of former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt.
Simakin's last-15 hard-court record is 14-1 with 82.9% of sets won, and he has won his last five matches without dropping a set. Hewitt is 10-4 on hard courts in the same window, with both of his recent losses coming against higher-ranked opponents. The recent results point one way, but Hewitt's 71.4% hard-court win rate in the window shows he is not arriving in poor form.
- Simakin last 15 matches on hard: 14-1, 82.9% sets won, 60.1% games won (15 matches tracked).
- Hewitt last 15 matches on hard: 10-4, 64.5% sets won, 51.9% games won (14 matches tracked).
- Simakin has won his last five matches in straight sets, including a 6-4 6-2 win over Blake Ellis on 17 September.
- Hewitt's two recent losses came against Max Purcell (ranked 671 at the time) and Arthur Fery (ranked 36).
Simakin, 25, stands 193cm and has averaged seven aces per match over his last 14 hard-court matches. Hewitt, 17, is 185cm and has averaged 3.9 aces per match over the same span.
Simakin's first-serve points won (75.6%) and second-serve points won (55.7%) on hard courts are both significantly higher than Hewitt's (72.3% and 48.2%). Hewitt is also averaging 4.1 double faults per match on the surface compared to Simakin's 2.6. Those serve gaps give Simakin more free points and fewer donated points, which matters in a best-of-three format where a single break can decide a set.
- Simakin hard-court last 15: 75.6% first-serve points won, 55.7% second-serve points won, 7.0 aces per match, 2.6 double faults per match (14 matches tracked).
- Hewitt hard-court last 15: 72.3% first-serve points won, 48.2% second-serve points won, 3.9 aces per match, 4.1 double faults per match (13 matches tracked).
- Simakin's first-serve percentage on hard is 61.7% compared to Hewitt's 56.3%.
Simakin, ATP No. 177 and right-handed with a two-handed backhand, is the away player in this Phan Thiet quarter-final. He won Phan Thiet 3 on 13 September, beating Arthur Weber 6-4, 7-6(5) in the final.
That title was his second consecutive Challenger trophy, and he began Phan Thiet 4 four days later. The quick turnaround means his recent workload is heavier than a typical quarter-finalist's, so his recovery and early-round energy are the main things to watch rather than any question about his level.
- The 13 September final ended 6-4, 7-6(5) over Arthur Weber and completed a second consecutive Challenger title.
- Stored recent sample: 5 wins from 5 tracked matches.
ConfirmedSources checked 17 Sep 2026, 15:07 · Europe/Bucharest
Hewitt, 17, is ranked No. 333 and has played a mix of Challenger and ATP-level events in 2026. Simakin, 25, is ranked No. 177 and has played primarily on the Challenger circuit.
Hewitt's recent wins include victories over Marcos Giron (No. 84) and Dusan Lajovic (No. 149), showing he can beat higher-ranked players. Simakin's 14-1 run has come almost entirely against opponents ranked outside the top 200, with his best win by ranking coming against Ilya Ivashka (No. 230). The opponent-quality gap in their recent wins is small, so the form difference is less decisive than the raw records suggest.
- Hewitt's last 15 matches include wins over Marcos Giron (No. 84) and Dusan Lajovic (No. 149).
- Hewitt's two losses in the window came against Arthur Fery (No. 36) and Max Purcell (ranked 671 at the time).
- Simakin's 14 wins in the window came against opponents ranked between No. 230 and No. 724.
- Simakin's only loss in the window was to Lucas Poullain (No. 337) on 9 August.
