Context last updated 11 Sep 2026, 03:14 · Europe/Bucharest

Max Purcell's superior serve, return, and recent hard-court form make him a strong favorite over Cruz Hewitt.

The best value is Purcell to win 2-0 at 2.10 odds, with a 7.4-point edge. Purcell's ace count and efficient play also support over 9.5 total aces and a straight-set victory.

Context

Max Purcell, 28, is the away player in this match. He is a right-hander with a two-handed backhand and is ranked No. 803.
Purcell is in his first three months back in sanctioned competition after an 18-month suspension ended on 11 June 2026. His recent sample shows 4 wins from 5 tracked matches, but the enforced absence means his current level is less established than a full season of results would suggest.
- The suspension end date was 11 June 2026.
- Purcell was selected for Australia’s Davis Cup tie against Poland on 19-20 September 2026.
- Stored recent sample: 4 wins from 5 tracked matches.

Purcell, 28, is a former top-100 player now ranked 803 and rebuilding on the Challenger tour. Hewitt, 17, is ranked 354 and coached by Peter Luczak.
Purcell's last-15 record is 73.3% with a 61.2% games-won rate, and he has beaten three top-400 opponents in his last five matches. Hewitt's 72.7% hard-court record is solid, but his wins have come mostly against players ranked outside the top 400, and he lost to Arthur Fery (ranked 33) in his most recent test. This suggests Purcell has faced and beaten stronger recent opposition, giving him a slight edge in current form.
- Purcell's last 15 matches: 11 wins, 4 losses (73.3% win rate).
- Hewitt's last 15 matches: 9 wins, 6 losses (60% win rate).
- Purcell's last 5 matches include wins over Blake Ellis (477), Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez (272), and Garrett Johns (399).
- Hewitt's last 5 matches include wins over Timofei Derepasko (680) and Constantin Bittoun Kouzmine (433), but a loss to Arthur Fery (33).
Purcell's serve has been a key part of his game throughout his career, with 3,284 career aces. Hewitt's serve is less dominant, with 309 career aces.
On hard courts in the last 15 matches, Purcell's first-serve points won is 78.5% compared to Hewitt's 70.3%, and Purcell hits more than twice as many aces per match. This could give Purcell more free points and put pressure on Hewitt's return game, especially if Purcell can maintain a high first-serve percentage.
- Purcell: 7.5 aces per match, 78.5% first-serve points won in last 15 matches.
- Hewitt: 3.3 aces per match, 70.3% first-serve points won in last 15 matches.
- Purcell's career aces: 3,284; Hewitt's career aces: 309.
Hewitt's recent matches have often been competitive, with several going the distance. Purcell has been more efficient, closing out matches in straight sets more often.
Hewitt's last 15 matches include four three-set battles, including a 1-6 7-6(3) 6-4 win over Sebastian Gorzny and a 4-6 6-2 6-3 loss to Clement Chidekh. Purcell has only two three-set matches in his last 15, suggesting he has been able to finish matches more quickly. This could matter if the match goes long, as Hewitt may be more accustomed to extended rallies and pressure situations.
- Hewitt's last 15 matches: 4 three-set matches.
- Purcell's last 15 matches: 2 three-set matches.
- Hewitt's three-set matches include wins over Gorzny and losses to Chidekh and Dedura-Palomero.
