Context last updated 25 Oct 2026, 13:48 · Europe/Bucharest

Djokovic plays his first Basel match since 2011 against a Humbert who has won twice in eight hard-court matches, though Djokovic's own last completed match was a straight-sets loss to Hurkacz.

Djokovic to win is the likeliest result; whether it takes two sets or three is far less clear. At 1.38 he is not worth backing, and Humbert with a 4.5-game start at 1.33 is no better.

Context

Djokovic's most recent evidence is a flat loss to a lower-ranked opponent.
This is the main counterweight to Djokovic's stronger overall record: the last thing he produced on court was a two-set loss to a player ranked No. 30. It is a single match from 9 October, so it does not establish a trend, and the gap to Basel leaves room for a different level.
- Djokovic lost 4-6 3-6 to Hubert Hurkacz (No. 30) on 9 October 2026.
- The match was a completed two-set defeat in Djokovic's tracked recent-match record.
Djokovic's best recent result came against the second-ranked player in the field.
Beating Zverev in three sets is the standout result in Djokovic's hard-court sample and the strongest single reason he starts favourite here. It also shows he can be dragged into a decider against a big server, and one result does not settle how he will look in Basel.
- Djokovic beat Alexander Zverev (No. 2) 4-6 6-4 6-4 on 4 October 2026.
- The win was completed in three sets in Djokovic's tracked hard-court sample.
This is an unusual return to a tournament Djokovic last played 15 years ago, giving the fixture added event context. His fourth seeding establishes his place in the draw, while Humbert is ranked No. 35. The gap since his previous Basel appearance does not establish a current court-specific advantage or disadvantage.
- Djokovic has not played Basel since the 2011 edition.

The late entry provides preparation context for Djokovic's return to Basel rather than evidence about his physical condition. It also explains why this event was not a long-established part of his autumn schedule. The available information does not describe his training, travel timetable or match readiness.
- Djokovic accepted an invitation to compete shortly before the Basel draw.
