Context last updated 18 Oct 2026, 18:04 · Europe/Bucharest

A third seed ranked 211 against a three-time Challenger champion ranked 678: Shick has the ranking and the stronger fields, Debru the 6-1 hard-court run and two matches this month.

Shick's 19 days without singles make it closer than the gap suggests, but he is the likelier winner. His 1.9 price gives a small edge; Debru at 1.8 asks too much.

Context

A No. 678 ranking sits far below Debru's record: three Challenger titles, the latest taken with five straight hard-court wins in early August. The ranking has been held down by a divided calendar rather than by a run of losses, with his 2026 tour appearances limited to short blocks around college dates. Against a No. 211 seed, the 467-place gap therefore overstates the difference in recent hard-court results. The limitation is recency: his last two tour matches were at ITF level in Austin, where he went out in a deciding tiebreak.
- Debru won five consecutive hard-court matches from 27 July to 2 August 2026, ending with a 3-6 7-5 6-4 win over Constantin Bittoun Kouzmine.
- Debru holds three Challenger titles, the most recent won in the weeks before his return to college competition.
- Debru's hard-court record in the tracked window reads six wins and one loss.
ConfirmedSources checked 18 Oct 2026, 18:03 · Europe/Bucharest
Shick's 14 hard-court matches average 2.43 sets and 24.1 games, and six of them contained at least one tiebreak. His second-set record (8-6) was stronger than his first-set record (6-8), so the later stages have been kinder. Debru's six hard-court matches average 25.7 games, which points the same way, though 14 and six matches are small bases.
- 14 completed hard-court matches from 3 July to 30 September 2026: 8 wins, 6 losses
- Scorelines: four 2-1 wins, four 2-0 wins, two 1-2 losses, four 0-2 losses
- Set 1: 6-8; set 2: 8-6; four first-set tiebreaks and two second-set tiebreaks
- Average 24.1 total games and 2.43 sets per match
The college route shapes Debru's calendar: he plays tour events in short blocks between college dates, and Fort Worth sits in his university's home state. His September college defeat came to a player who then won his first professional title, which frames the standard of that event. His most recent tour match in Austin went to a deciding tiebreak that he lost 10-8 after levelling at one set all, so the October results are narrow rather than one-sided. The clear gap is level: both October matches were at ITF level, below the Challenger 75 he meets here.
- Debru beat Azariah Rusher 6-4 7-5 for his first singles win as a Texas player.
- Debru lost 6-3 1-6 7-6(3) to Dominick Mosejczuk in the second round of the ITA All-Americans .
- Debru beat Zachary Fuchs 6-4 6-4 on 12 October 2026 and lost 6-3 2-6 10-8 to Micah Braswell on 13 October 2026 in Austin.
- Debru also took a first doubles win at the ITA All-Americans alongside Lucas Marionneau.
ConfirmedSources checked 18 Oct 2026, 18:03 · Europe/Bucharest
Shick arrives with 19 days without a singles match, while Debru played twice in Austin on 12 and 13 October. His only competition in that window was the Columbus doubles, where he and Milavsky reached the final, so his recent court time came in a format with different return and movement demands. The gap cuts both ways: a lighter load against a player who has played twice this month, but without the singles repetitions that a first round at a new venue usually rewards.
- Rottgering beat Shick 6-1 6-4 in the Columbus Challenger round of 16 .
- Shick and Daniel Milavsky lost the Columbus Challenger doubles final 7-6(3) 2-6 [10-4] to Brandon Carpico and Nikita Filin .
- Shick has no singles match recorded after .
