Dart, the world No. 113, meets a home player who has not won since 7 August, but Saigo's second sets and Dart's habit of needing a decider keep this qualifying opener from being a formality.

Dart should win, though the 1.10 on her victory asks too much. The four prices worth taking are Dart to win 2-1 at 4.25, Saigo to take the second set at 4.25, Saigo to take the opening set at 4.75, and Saigo to win at 7.00.

Context

Dart's Beijing fortnight is the clearest current measure of her level on outdoor hard: she won two China Open qualifying matches and a main-draw match, then took the opening set off world No. 11 Iva Jovic before losing in three. That level sits well above a WTA250 qualifying field, which explains why she is seeded here despite ranking No. 113. The limitation is that the run still ended in defeat and the qualifying wins came against lower-ranked opponents, with no competitive match in the two weeks since.
- Harriet Dart def. Tiphanie Lemaitre 6-2 6-3 (China Open qualifying first round)
- Harriet Dart def. Ma YeXin 6-3 6-2 (China Open qualifying final)
- Iva Jovic moves on into the third round in Beijing after a hard-fought win over qualifier Harriet Dart
- Harriet Dart takes a set off Iva Jovic but falls in 3 sets in WTA Beijing 6-2 3-6 3-6

Seven defeats in a row since 7 August, six in straight sets, make recent form the clearest argument against Saigo. The run spans a WTA250 qualifying event in Korea and a WTA125 first round in China, so it is not confined to one level of opposition. Her opponent arrives from a WTA 1000 main-draw win, which sharpens the contrast, though a first-round qualifying match at a home WTA250 is a softer test than either recent loss.
- 西郷里奈（東急スポーツシステム）は予選敗退 (WTA250 Korea Open qualifying, week of 21-27 September)
- 西郷里奈（東急スポーツシステム）は１回戦敗退 (WTA125 China, week of 28 September-4 October)

Dart has taken a decider in five of her nine hard-court wins in this window, and her matches average 2.5 sets, so a long night is the more familiar pattern. The counterweight is Saigo's own record: six of her last seven defeats came in straight sets, which cuts the other way. The four straight-set wins Dart does own, including two in this window against lower-ranked opponents, show the shorter route is possible.
- Dart's hard-court scorelines from 30 July to 3 October: 2-1 wins x5, 2-0 wins x4, 1-2 losses x2, 0-2 losses x3 across 14 matches
- Dart's matches average 2.5 sets and 22 games across the same window
Back and hip treatment during a match points to an area that can affect serve rhythm and lateral movement, and the episode is only a few weeks old. It is not established as an ongoing problem: Saigo finished that match and played again five days later, so the concern is a possible recurrence rather than a confirmed restriction. It matters here because it is the only recent physical signal attached to a player whose results have been poor.
- Medical time out for Rina Saigo. Treatment on back / hip area. Saigo serve next at 3-4 down vs Alexandra Shubladze in set 2
