Context last updated 14 Oct 2026, 15:07 · Europe/Bucharest

Ivashka won the Shanghai Challenger and came through qualifying here without dropping a set, but his Jinan first round ended in retirement at 3-4 and his condition is the open question against a qualifier who has just beaten the No. 64 seed, James Duckworth.

Draxl is the fair pick to win on recent scalps and a fuller serve-and-return record. The reviewed price, 1.85 on Draxl with the same 1.85 on Ivashka, offers nothing worth backing.

Context

Ivashka's first-round match at this event ended in retirement, making his physical condition the central question around this fixture. A mid-match retirement denies any completed-match read on his current level and raises a plausible risk that his participation or capacity is compromised. The specific problem was not detailed, so the likely effect on his serving, movement or stamina is unknown.
- The Jinan first-round match between Ivashka and Marat Sharipov ended at 3-4 with a retirement.

Draxl's straight-sets win over the draw's second seed is a strong marker of his hard-court level immediately before this fixture, and it followed a three-set qualifying win over Omar Jasika. The result is qualified because Duckworth took a medical timeout for a leg problem in the opening set, so the scoreline may overstate the standard Draxl faced. It establishes current form rather than a playing condition that changes this matchup.
- Draxl, a qualifier, defeated second seed James Duckworth 6-4 6-4 in 1h 34m at the Jinan Challenger 125 .
- Duckworth took a medical timeout for a leg problem while trailing 3-2 in the opening set.
- Draxl had earlier beaten Omar Jasika 5-7 7-6(4) 6-4 to come through qualifying.

Ivashka arrives with 12 wins in 14 completed hard-court matches since early August 2026.
Seven of his 12 wins in that 14-match sample came in straight sets, and his matches average 2.36 sets and 22.4 games, so short finishes have been the norm. The sample excludes one retirement, and his second sets are far less dominant than his first: 8-6 with 5.2 games won to 4.5 lost. No serve or return figures are available for him.
- 14 completed hard-court matches tracked from 2 August to 12 October 2026, with one retirement excluded
- Record across that sample: 12 wins and two defeats, with scorelines of seven 2-0, five 2-1 and two 0-2
- Average match length 2.36 sets and 22.4 games; first sets won 11-3 and second sets won 8-6
Ivashka's most recent title came on hard courts about a month before this event, and he won the final by taking a deciding tiebreak. It shows he was winning at this level on the surface used here. The run predates his Jinan retirement, so it does not offset the current physical question.
- Ivashka won the Shanghai Challenger in September 2026, defeating Marat Sharipov 6-4 3-6 7-6 in the final.
