Etienne Donnet, world No. 817, takes on No.

272 Matteo Martineau in an all-French round of 16 after three straight-set wins in three days at Roanne. Martineau's ranking, serve and his win in their only previous meeting here make him the likelier winner, but 1.40 asks too much. Donnet at 2.75 is the one price worth acting on, with a 46% read against the 36% the odds imply.

Context

Donnet's win over a top-150 opponent is the standout result on his recent record and shows he is holding his level on the indoor hard court at Roanne, while also removing a higher-ranked opponent from his path. The caveat is that Mpetshi Perricard was playing his first match since the US Open and had lost seven in a row, so the upset reflects Donnet's form as much as an opponent short of match practice.
- Donnet beat Mpetshi Perricard 7-6(5) 7-6(3) in the Roanne first round .
- World No. 817 Donnet eliminated Mpetshi Perricard, a former Basel champion, in the opening round.

Donnet has been far more effective in the middle of matches than at the start of them.
Donnet's first sets (6-7) and second sets (11-2) point in opposite directions over the same 13-match sample, and his opening sets average 9.8 games with two tiebreaks. The split suggests his week has been built in the middle of matches rather than the opening exchanges, which matters against an opponent who has won 8 of his 14 first sets on this surface.
- Donnet: 13 hard-court matches, 27 August-13 October 2026; first sets 6-7, second sets 11-2.
- First sets average 9.8 games with 2 tiebreaks; second sets average 10.4 games with 2 tiebreaks.
He has saved 62.8% of break points in that sample, 59 of 94, while winning exactly half of his total points, the profile of a player whose serve keeps him in matches. Donnet has been winning second sets at a high rate, so the pressure may fall on Martineau's second serve, where he wins only 49.1% of points. It gives Martineau a route to short holds but not a clear all-round edge.
- Martineau's last 15 matches, through 13 October 2026: 845 of 1,248 first serves in (67.7%) and 611 of 845 first-serve points won (72.3%).
- 115 aces in 15 matches (7.7 per match); 59 of 94 break points saved (62.8%).
- 198 of 403 second-serve points won (49.1%); 1,224 of 2,446 total points won (50.0%).
Three completed straight-set wins at Roanne leave Donnet match-sharp on the same indoor hard court and on a run of finished matches. The qualifying route also gave him more recent competitive sets than a seeded opponent, though Martineau also won his opener in straight sets on the same day, so the workload does not clearly separate them.
- Donnet beat Amir Omarkhanov 6-1 7-5 on 11 October 2026 and Patrick Brady 6-4 7-5 in Roanne qualifying.
- The Roanne main draw was Donnet's first at Challenger level in 2026.
