Pre-match view

Context last updated 12 Oct 2026, 19:46 · Europe/Bucharest

Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, the No. 4 seed and a former top-30 player, arrives at the Roanne Challenger without a win in his four tracked hard-court matches, against a qualifier, Etienne Donnet, who has won nine of 13 on the surface.

Mpetshi Perricard's serve and the 709-place ranking gap still make him the likely winner, but 1.08 offers nothing for that risk. Donnet at 6.5 is the price that pays; his 9-4 hard record and two straight-sets qualifying wins are worth more than that price suggests.

Context

His 31 August loss to Jurij Rodionov is the last recorded match before Roanne, so he arrives after roughly six weeks without competition while much of this field has been playing indoor hard. A direct-entry seed skips the qualifying workload that his opponent has just carried, so the preparation edge and the rust risk sit with different players. The ranking slide to No. 108 is why he is at Challenger level rather than at tour level, which makes his current form genuinely uncertain rather than a settled baseline.
- Mpetshi Perricard is listed on the Roanne Challenger 100 entry list as his return to the secondary circuit, 12-18 October.
- He was drawn as the No. 4 seed against qualifier Etienne Donnet in the first round.
- He dropped out of the top 100 in the September 2026 rankings.
ConfirmedSources checked 12 Oct 2026, 19:43 · Europe/Bucharest
The qualifying route gave Donnet completed matches on the Vacheresse indoor courts before facing the fourth seed, an acclimatisation he lacked at Challenger level earlier this year. Both wins came against higher-ranked opposition, so the week is a clear step up from his recent ITF results. The relevant limit is the jump in level: he has no 2026 record of facing a server of Mpetshi Perricard's calibre, and the gap from ITF tennis to a Challenger 100 main draw is the immediate test.
- Donnet beat Amir Omarkhanov 6-1 7-5 in the first qualifying round on 11 October.
- He beat Patrick Brady 6-4 7-5 in the qualifying final .
- Both beaten opponents, ranked 618 and 715, were above his own No. 817.

The pattern gives Donnet a realistic route to the first set even as the underdog. Mpetshi Perricard's serve kept him in those matches later, but slow starts against Brooksby, Svajda and Van de Zandschulp left him chasing from the first change of ends. The three opening sets went 3-6, 1-6 and 2-6. With the sample taken in August 2026, this is dated form rather than a permanent trait, but it shapes a best-of-three first round.
- Three completed hard-court matches tracked between 4 and 23 August 2026: first sets lost 0-3, averaging 2 games won to 6 lost.
- Second sets in the same three matches: 2-1, averaging about 4.7 games won to 3.3 lost.
- No tiebreaks in the three matches, per the same set evidence.
The serve is why Mpetshi Perricard stays close in matches he is losing, and 14.3 aces per match across 15 tracked matches is a heavy workload on any surface. The second serve is the way in: he wins only 47.3% of second-serve points in the same window and double-faults 3.2 times per match. Donnet will need to attack those second serves to turn his hard-court form into a first-round upset. All figures cover the window ending 31 August 2026.
- 15 tracked matches ending 31 August 2026: 214 aces, 14.3 per match, first serves in 68.5% (850/1,241).
- First-serve points won 75.5% (642/850); second-serve points won 47.3% (185/391).
- Double faults 3.2 per match (48 in 15 matches).
