Pre-match view

Context last updated 13 Oct 2026, 16:02 · Europe/Bucharest

Top seed Francisco Comesana meets protected-ranking Felipe Meligeni Alves, whose live No. 453 sits far below the No. 117 he once reached.

Comesana's ranking and 4-1 head-to-head still make him the likely winner, but his recent results and Meligeni Alves's better clay form keep it close. The 1.36 on Comesana to win and 1.43 for the opening set are not worth taking; Meligeni Alves at 2.9 to win the match and 2.63 to take the first set carry a small edge.

Context

Meligeni Alves is competing on a protected ranking, the entry route for players returning from a long period away, which puts a former No. 117 into the draw while his live ranking sits at No. 453. That gap shapes how the fixture is read, because ranking-based projections treat him as a heavy outsider even though the number largely reflects time off the tour. Since returning he has won a first-round match in Santa Cruz and reached an Antofagasta quarterfinal, so he is active and winning again. A protected ranking does not measure present form or fitness, so it explains the mismatch without settling how competitive he will be.
- Meligeni Alves received singles main-draw entry at the Santa Cruz Challenger II via a protected ranking.
- His live ranking is No. 453; his career-high No. 117 was set in April 2025.

A week before Santa Cruz, Meligeni Alves reached the Antofagasta Challenger quarterfinal, beating Juan Pablo Varillas and Nick Hardt before losing 6-1 6-4 to Thiago Seyboth Wild . This is the clearest current evidence that his level sits above a No. 453 ranking and makes him a live opponent for the top seed rather than a routine one. The counterpoint is that his most recent test against a higher-ranked player ended in a straight-sets loss, so the run shows activity and wins rather than superiority. It also places the Santa Cruz first round immediately after that run.
- Meligeni Alves beat Juan Pablo Varillas and Nick Hardt at the Antofagasta Challenger.

Comesana's seven completed clay matches in this window have mostly gone the distance: six were decided in a third set and the average was 2.86 sets. He has won five of seven opening sets but only three of seven second sets, which is why so many matches extend. That suggests a longer contest than Meligeni Alves's recent clay matches. Seven matches is a small sample, so treat it as a tendency, not a fixed habit.
- Seven completed clay matches tracked from 30 June to 13 October 2026.
- Scorelines: three 2-1 wins, three 1-2 losses, one 2-0 win.
- Average of 2.86 sets per match; set one record 5-2, set two record 3-4.
Comesana is the top seed and the highest-ranked player in the section at No. 125, a former No. 54 who opened with a three-set win over Nick Hardt. Seeding carries the expectation of a deep run and the points that come with it, and every opponent in this part of the draw is measured against his position. This is a Challenger 75 on clay, the level and surface where his ranking advantage should be most usable. The seed status explains the expectation around the match; it is not evidence of current form, and his opening round still went the distance.
- Comesana was the top seed at the Santa Cruz Challenger II.
- The tournament is a clay-court event in Santa Cruz de la Sierra held 12-18 October 2026.
- Comesana is ranked No. 125 and has a career-high ranking of No. 54.
